do_signal has exactly the same behaviour on 32bit and 64bit and 32bit
compat on 64bit for handling 32bit signals. Consolidate all these
into one common function in signal.c. The only odd left over is
the try_to_free in the 32bit version that no other architecture has
in mainline (only in i386 for some odd SuSE release). We should
probably get rid of it in a separate patch.

sys_sigaltstack is the same on 32bit and 64 and we can consolidate it
to signal.c. The only difference is that the 32bit code uses ints
for the unused register paramaters and 64bit unsigned long. I've
changed it to unsigned long because it's the same width on 32bit.
(I also wonder who came up with this awkward calling convention.. :))

This patch moves the code in signal_32.c and signal_64.c for handling
syscall restart into a common signal.c file and converge around a single
implementation that is based on the 32 bits one, using trap, ccr
and r3 rather than the special "result" field for deciding what to do.
The "result" field is now pretty much deprecated. We still set it for
the sake of whatever might rely on it in userland but we no longer use
it's content.
This, along with a previous patch that enables ptracers to write to
"trap" and "orig_r3" should allow gdb to properly handle syscall
restarting.

This patch removes the #ifdef CONFIG_PPC64 around setting the DABR.
The actual setting of the SPR inside of the set_dabr() function is dependent
on CONFIG_PPC64 || CONFIG_6xx but you can always provide a ppc_md hook to
override that. We should improve support for different HW breakpoints
facilities but this is a first step.

One of the gratuitous difference between 32 and 64-bit ptrace is
whether you can whack the MSR:FE0 and FE1 bits from ptrace. This
patch forbids it unconditionally. In addition, the 64-bit kernels
used to return the exception mode in the MSR on reads, but 32-bit
kernels didn't. This patch makes it return those bits on both.
Finally, since ptrace-ppc32.h and ptrace-ppc64.h are mostly empty now, and
since the previous patch made ptrace32.c no longer need the MSR_DEBUGCHANGE
definition, we just remove those 2 files and move back the remaining bits
to ptrace.c (they were short lived heh ?).

This patch allows a ptracer to write to the "trap" and "orig_r3" words
of the pt_regs.
This, along with a subsequent patch to the signal restart code, should
enable gdb to properly handle syscall restarting after executing a separate
function (at least when there's no restart block).
This patch also removes ptrace32.c code toying directly with the registers
and makes it use the ptrace_get/put_reg() accessors for everything so that
the logic for checking what is permitted is in only one place.

The powerpc ptrace interface is dodgy at best. We have defined our
"own" versions of GETREGS/SETREGS/GETFPREGS/SETFPREGS that strangely
take arguments in reverse order from other archs (in addition to having
different request numbers) and have subtle issue, like not accessing
all of the registers in their respective categories.
This patch moves the implementation of those to a separate function
in order to facilitate their deprecation in the future, and provides
new ptrace requests that mirror the x86 and sparc ones and use the
same numbers:
PTRACE_GETREGS : returns an entire pt_regs (the whole thing,
not only the 32 GPRs, though that doesn't
include the FPRs etc... There's a compat version
for 32 bits that returns a 32 bits compatible
pt_regs (44 uints)
PTRACE_SETREGS : sets an entire pt_regs (the whole thing,
not only the 32 GPRs, though that doesn't
include the FPRs etc... Some registers cannot be
written to and will just be dropped, this is the
same as with POKEUSR, that is anything above MQ
on 32 bits and CCR on 64 bits. There is a compat
version as well.
PTRACE_GETFPREGS : returns all the FP registers -including- the FPSCR
that is 33 doubles (regardless of 32/64 bits)
PTRACE_SETFPREGS : sets all the FP registers -including- the FPSCR
that is 33 doubles (regardless of 32/64 bits)
And two that only exist on 64 bits kernels:
PTRACE_GETREGS64 : Same as PTRACE_GETREGS, except there is no compat
function, a 32 bits process will obtain the full 64
bits registers
PTRACE_SETREGS64 : Same as PTRACE_SETREGS, except there is no compat
function, a 32 bits process will set the full 64
bits registers
The two later ones makes things easier to have a 32 bits debugger on a
64 bits program (or on a 32 bits program that uses the full 64 bits of
the GPRs, which is possible though has issues that will be fixed in a
later patch).
Finally, while at it, the patch removes a whole bunch of code duplication
between ptrace32.c and ptrace.c, in large part by having the former call
into the later for all requests that don't need any special "compat"
treatment.

The powerpc ptrace code has some weirdness, like a ptrace-common.h file that
is actually ppc64 only and some of the 32 bits code ifdef'ed inside ptrace.c.
There are also separate implementations for things like get/set_vrregs for
32 and 64 bits which is totally unnecessary.
This patch cleans that up a bit by having a ptrace-common.h which contains
really common code (and makes a lot more code common), and ptrace-ppc32.h and
ptrace-ppc64.h files that contain the few remaining different bits.

list of linefeed separated capability names. The current exposed
capabilities are "sched" (the context is scheduleable) and
"step" (the context supports single stepping).

This patch adds support for SPU single stepping. The single
step bit is set in the SPU when the current process is
being single-stepped via ptrace. The spu then stops and
returns with a specific flag set and the syscall exit code
will generate the SIGTRAP.

This rewrites pretty much from scratch the handling of MMIO and PIO
space allocations on powerpc64. The main goals are:
- Get rid of imalloc and use more common code where possible
- Simplify the current mess so that PIO space is allocated and
mapped in a single place for PCI bridges
- Handle allocation constraints of PIO for all bridges including
hot plugged ones within the 2GB space reserved for IO ports,
so that devices on hotplugged busses will now work with drivers
that assume IO ports fit in an int.
- Cleanup and separate tracking of the ISA space in the reserved
low 64K of IO space. No ISA -> Nothing mapped there.
I booted a cell blade with IDE on PIO and MMIO and a dual G5 so
far, that's it :-)
With this patch, all allocations are done using the code in
mm/vmalloc.c, though we use the low level __get_vm_area with
explicit start/stop constraints in order to manage separate
areas for vmalloc/vmap, ioremap, and PCI IOs.
This greatly simplifies a lot of things, as you can see in the
diffstat of that patch :-)
A new pair of functions pcibios_map/unmap_io_space() now replace
all of the previous code that used to manipulate PCI IOs space.
The allocation is done at mapping time, which is now called from
scan_phb's, just before the devices are probed (instead of after,
which is by itself a bug fix). The only other caller is the PCI
hotplug code for hot adding PCI-PCI bridges (slots).
imalloc is gone, as is the "sub-allocation" thing, but I do beleive
that hotplug should still work in the sense that the space allocation
is always done by the PHB, but if you unmap a child bus of this PHB
(which seems to be possible), then the code should properly tear
down all the HPTE mappings for that area of the PHB allocated IO space.
I now always reserve the first 64K of IO space for the bridge with
the ISA bus on it. I have moved the code for tracking ISA in a separate
file which should also make it smarter if we ever are capable of
hot unplugging or re-plugging an ISA bridge.
This should have a side effect on platforms like powermac where VGA IOs
will no longer work. This is done on purpose though as they would have
worked semi-randomly before. The idea at this point is to isolate drivers
that might need to access those and fix them by providing a proper
function to obtain an offset to the legacy IOs of a given bus.

This makes unmap_vm_area static and a wrapper around a new
exported unmap_kernel_range that takes an explicit range instead
of a vm_area struct.
This makes it more versatile for code that wants to play with kernel
page tables outside of the standard vmalloc area.
(One example is some rework of the PowerPC PCI IO space mapping
code that depends on that patch and removes some code duplication
and horrible abuse of forged struct vm_struct).

Previously, registering this early console would just result
in dropping early buffered printk output until a udbg_putc
was registered.
However, commit 69331af79c
clears the CON_PRINTBUFFER flag on the main console when a
CON_BOOT (early) console has been registered, resulting in
the buffered messages never being displayed to the user.
This fixes the problem by making sure we don't register udbg_console
on platforms that don't implement udbg_putc.

The per-cpu area(a) for the secondary CPU(s) isn't getting allocated
on old SMP powermacs that don't have the secondary CPU(s) listed in
the device tree, as per-cpu areas are now only allocated for CPUs in
the cpu_possible_map, and we aren't setting the bits for the secondary
CPU(s) until smp_prepare_cpus(), which is after per-cpu allocation.
Therefore this sets the bits for CPUs 1..3 in cpu_possible_map in
pmac_setup_arch, so they get per-cpu data allocated.

The COFF zImage (for booting oldworld powermacs) wasn't being built
correctly because the procedure descriptor in crt0.S for the zImage
entry point wasn't declared as .globl, and therefore wasn't getting
pulled in from wrapper.a by the linker. This adds the necessary
.globl statement.

The error path in spufs_fill_dir() is broken. If d_alloc_name() or
spufs_new_file() fails, spufs_prune_dir() is getting called. At this time
dir->inode is not set and a NULL pointer is dereferenced by mutex_lock().
This bugfix replaces spufs_prune_dir() with a shorter version that does
not touch dir->inode but simply removes all children.

We had a problem on a system with only dynamically allocated
PCI buses (using of_pci_phb_driver) in combination with libata.
This setup ended up having no "primary" phb, which means
that pci_io_base never got initialized and all IO port
numbers are 64 bit numbers, which is larger than the
PIO_MASK limit.

Fix the race between checking for contexts on the runqueue and actually
waking them in spu_deactive and spu_yield.
The guts of spu_reschedule are split into a new helper called
grab_runnable_context which shows if there is a runnable thread below
a specified priority and if yes removes if from the runqueue and uses
it. This function is used by the new __spu_deactivate hepler shared
by preemption and spu_yield to grab a new context before deactivating
a specified priority and if yes removes if from the runqueue and uses

pointers used for tearing down the ptes on a spu context switch.

Previously, closing a SPE gang that still has contexts would trigger
a WARN_ON, and leak the allocated gang.
This change fixes the problem by using the gang's reference counts to
destroy the gang instead. The gangs will persist until their last
reference (be it context or open file handle) is gone.
Also, avoid using statements with side-effects in a WARN_ON().

As noticed by David Woodhouse, it's currently possible to mount
spufs on any machine, which means that it actually will get
mounted by fedora.
This refuses to load the module on platforms that have no
support for SPUs.

There is a thinko in the irq code, it uses IRQ_NONE to indicate no irq,
whereas it should be using NO_IRQ. IRQ_NONE is returned from irq
handlers to say "not handled".
As it happens they currently have the same value (0), so this is just for
future proof-ness.

In the bootwrapper code for powerpc, we include HOSTCFLAGS into the
BOOTCFLAGS used for building the zImage wrapper code. Since the
wrapper code is not host code, this makes no sense. This patch
removes the use of HOSTCFLAGS here, instead including directly into
BOOTCFLAGS those flags from the normal kernel CFLAGS which also make
sense in the bootwrapper code.
In particular, this makes the bootwrapper use -msoft-float, preventing
the compiler from generating floating point instructions. Previously,
under some circumstances the compiler could generate floating point
instructions in the bootwrapper which would cause exceptions on
embedded CPUS which don't have floating point support.

built for a combined kernel build that happens to include iSeries.

The recent addition of assembler flags for 44x.c and ebony.c in the
bootwrapper to make them compile on certain toolchains was not correct
and could break other platforms. This patch switches to using a
compiler flag instead, which implies the appropriate assembler flag,
and also stops the compiler itself generating instructions which are
invalid for the platform in question.

The ppc32 kernel didn't properly set/clear the TIF_SINGLESTEP
flag, causing return from syscalls to not SIGTRAP, thus executing
one more instruction before stopping again.
This fixes it. The ptrace code is a bit of a mess, and is overdue
for at least a -proper- 32/64 bits split and possibly more cleanups
but this minimum fix should be ok for 2.6.22

The UCC_GETH Kconfig option in drivers/net/Kconfig had a line to select the
UCC_FAST option is arch/powerpc/sysdev/qe_lib/Kconfig, which is only used
on PowerPC builds. On other architectures, this would generated a warning.
The fix is to have UCC_FAST depend on UCC_GETH.

Sam's recent change in 7664709b44
broke things for us because we ended up with *(.text.*) before
*(.text), whereas previously *(.text) was first. This was
important because the start of the text section contains the
kernel entry point.
In fact, we don't need that *(.text.*) thing anymore and it
incorrectly matched .text.init.refok, thus putting it before
.text. .. ouch !

smp_call_function_map() was not safe against preemption to another
cpu: its test for removing self from map was outside the spinlock.
Rearrange it a little to fix that.
smp_call_function_single() was also wrong: now get_cpu() before
excluding self, as other architectures do.

First thing mm.h does is including sched.h solely for can_do_mlock() inline
function which has "current" dereference inside. By dealing with can_do_mlock()
mm.h can be detached from sched.h which is good. See below, why.
This patch
a) removes unconditional inclusion of sched.h from mm.h
b) makes can_do_mlock() normal function in mm/mlock.c
c) exports can_do_mlock() to not break compilation
d) adds sched.h inclusions back to files that were getting it indirectly.
e) adds less bloated headers to some files (asm/signal.h, jiffies.h) that were
getting them indirectly
Net result is:
a) mm.h users would get less code to open, read, preprocess, parse, ... if
they don't need sched.h
b) sched.h stops being dependency for significant number of files:
on x86_64 allmodconfig touching sched.h results in recompile of 4083 files,
after patch it's only 3744 (-8.3%).

As a result of compiling all of the wrapper files for every platform
now, the kernel build can fail for toolchains that don't support various
op codes by default. An example of this building a 7xx platform with
the ELD4.0 toolchain, is below:

Without this, some versions of GNU ar fail to create
an archive index if the object files it is packing
together are of a different object format than ar's
default format (for example, binutils compiled to
default to 64-bit, with 32-bit objects).

Our device-tree unflattening code makes sure the name and type fields
of a device-node are not NULL. However, the code for dynamically
adding devices nodes which is used for pSeries hotplug for example
didn't do it, potentially causing crashes in some code that assume it
can always do things like strcmp on those.

This patch corrects a number of minor errors in the Ebony device tree:
- Missing (given as 0) cache sizes are added to the CPU node
- device_type properties are removed from nodes which don't
have a reasonably well defined device_type binding. This does require
a very small code change to locate the busses to be probed for
of_platform devices by 'compatible' instead of 'device_type'.
- A node is added for the SRAM controller
- The unit address of the small-flash node is adjusted to
correctly reflect the reg property.
- device_type values for the MAL and ZMII are updated to
reflected more up-to-date versions of the binding.
- An incorrect offset in the partition map for the large-flash
node is corrected.
- Some redundant values, already commented out are removed
entirely.

Cpufreq using pmi is broken by a dependency issue, that
will be fixed in a seperate patch.
Bare-metal cpufreq is broken by hardware limitations.
As it was the only user, pmi is disabled as well.

This changes the way of_platform_pci creates PCI host bridges such
that it uses request_phb_iospace() for mapping the IO ports, instead
of using the dynamic hotplug stuff. That guarantees the IO space
stays within the 2GB limit and thus doesn't break half of the legacy
drivers around.
Fixes a couple of warnings due to missing IO space while at it.
This patch is a temporary workaround for 2.6.22 before a more complete
rewrite of IO mappings is merged in 2.6.23

request_phb_iospace() can be called from different CPUs at init
time (at least with my next patch) and thus needs a spinlock.
As for the next patch, this is a temporary workaround for 2.6.22
issues until my rewrite of IO mappings is ready (for 2.6.23)

At present attempting to build treeImage.initrd.* boot images will
fail, because make will select the treeImage.% rule which also matches
instead of the correct and more specific treeImage.initrd.% rule.
This patch corrects the problem by listing the more specific rule
first.

ft_set_prop() from flatdevtree.c in the zImage wrapper will either
replace an existing property in the flat device tree, or add a new
property definiion if the given property isn't present.
However, when adding properties, it adds the property definition
immediately before the node's END_NODE tag, potentially after any
subnode definitions for the node. This confuses the kernel flat tree
parser in prom.c which assumes that all property definitions for a
node come before all subnode definitions.
This patch corrects ft_set_prop() so that it adds new properties
before the first subnode, instead of before the END_NODE tag.

When an rheap is created, the caller can specify the alignment to use. In
rh_alloc_align(), if a free block is found that is the exact size needed
(including extra space for alignment), that configured alignment value is not
used to align the pointer. Instead, the default alignment is used. If the
default alignment is smaller than the configured alignment, then the returned
value will not be aligned correctly.

The Motorola PrPMC280 and PrPMC2800 processor modules sit on an F101 or
PrPMC2800 baseboard, respectively. There are several variants of each
type of processor module which can have different amounts of memory,
amounts of FLASH, cpu frequencies, and an mv64360 or an mv64362.
The bootwrapper code for that platform reads VPD from an I2C EEPROM
to determine the processor module variant. From the variant, the
amount of memory, etc. is determined and the device tree is updated
accordingly. If the variant cannot be determined (e.g., corrupted
VPD or a previously unknown variant), the property values already
in the device tree are used.
Also, the firmware for those platforms does not completely configure
the mv64x60 host bridge so that configuration is done here.

Add the device tree source file for the prpmc2800 line of processor PMCs.
Several of the property values are updated by the bootwrapper but sane
defaults have been chosen in case the bootwrapper can't determine the
exact processor board variant. The defaults should allow the kernel
to boot despite having non-optimal device tree property values.

the kernel (CONFIG_NOT_COHERENT_CACHE) matches that left by the firmware,

There are 3 interrupt groups each with its own status/mask registers.
We use a separate struct irq_chip for each interrupt group and handle
interrupts in two stages or levels: level 1 selects the appropriate
struct irq_chip, and level 2 selects individual interrupts within
that irq_chip.

Some platforms support a variety processor modules with no method of
determining which exact processor module is being used except by
examining Vital Product Data (VPD). The modules may have different
amounts of memory, clock frequencies, etc. so reading the VPD becomes
necessary to correctly set properties in the device tree before its
passed to the kernel.
Often the VPD is stored in I2C EEPROMs so an I2C driver becomes necessary.
This I2C driver is for the I2C controller that's embedded on the Marvel
mv64x60 line of host bridges.

The mv64x60 host bridge has many windows between its various components
(cpu, system memory, ethernet ctlr, MPSC, DMA ctlr, PCI MEM, PCI I/O).
Unfortunately, the firmware on some of mv64x60-based platforms do not
properly or completely configure those windows (e.g., MPSC->system memory
windows not configured or CPU->PCI MEM space not configured).
So, the missing configuration needs to be done in either the bootwrapper
or in the kernel. To keep the kernel as clean as possible, it is done
in the bootwrapper. Note that I/O controller configuration is NOT being
done, its only the windows to allow the I/O controllers and other components
to access memory, etc. that is being done--drivers assume that their
controllers can already access system memory).

Add 'zImage.dts' and 'zImage.dts_initrd' build rules that automatically
compile and wrap a dts file from arch/powerpc/boot/dts into the zImage file.
The resulting zImage will be arch/powerpc/boot/zImage.dts.<platform> and
arch/powerpc/boot/zImage.dts_initrd.<platform>, respectively.
Having separate rules allows the user to choose whether to include a device
tree--and which device tree--at build time. This is useful when one Makefile
target builds a zImage that runs on several platforms except for differing
device trees. By just setting CONFIG_DEVICE_TREE and running "make zImage.dts"
the exact zImage you want is built without Makefile bloat or manually running
the wrapper script.
The dts file is expected to be arch/powerpc/boot/dts/$(CONFIG_DEVICE_TREE)

The boot wrapper platform init code on 83xx and 85xx using the cuboot
platform type was incorrectly assuming that u-boot supplied the size
of the initrd, whereas it actually supplies the end address. This
fixes it.

An mdio bus scan was added with ucc_geth phylib
migration patches, now machines complain on boot, saying:

Greatly simplify the function smp_space_timers.
The stolen time calculation (per comment within the code) doesn't need the
half-jiffy stagger any more. There isn't an issue with bouncing off global
locks, so we really shouldn't need any sort of staggering at all.
However, the last_jiffy value still needs to be set. This removes the
extra stagger logic, and just sets the values.
This change should benefit applications that rely on barrier
synchronization, and will help cut down OS jitter.
Boot tested across the board (G5,power3,power4,power5,970mp blade).

This patch renames the raw hard_irq_{enable,disable} into
__hard_irq_{enable,disable} and introduces a higher level hard_irq_disable()
function that can be used by any code to enforce that IRQs are fully disabled,
not only lazy disabled.
The difference with the __ versions is that it will update some per-processor
fields so that the kernel keeps track and properly re-enables them in the next
local_irq_disable();
This prepares powerpc for my next patch that introduces hard_irq_disable()
generically.

When auditing syscalls that send signals, log the pid and security
context for each target process. Optimize the data collection by
adding a counter for signal-related rules, and avoiding allocating an
aux struct unless we have more than one target process. For process
groups, collect pid/context data in blocks of 16. Move the
audit_signal_info() hook up in check_kill_permission() so we audit
attempts where permission is denied.

Commit 2f4dfe206a moved the definition
of hard_smp_processor_id() for the UP case from include/linux/smp.h
to include/asm/smp.h. However, include/linux/smp.h only includes
include/asm/smp.h in the SMP case, so code that wants to use
hard_smp_processor_id() has to include <asm/smp.h> explicitly to
be sure of getting the definition.

If CONFIG_BLK_DEV_INITRD is not defined the prop variable in
early_init_dt_scan_chosen() is unused, causing a compiler warning.
So split the initrd logic into a separate function, allowing us to
declare prop only when we need it.
Built for both cases and booted with an initrd.

This adds the necessary support to hpte_decode() to handle 1TB
segments and 16GB pages, and removes an uninitialized value
warning on avpn.
We don't have any code to generate HPTEs for 1TB segments or 16GB
pages yet, so this is mostly for completeness, and to fix the
warning.

My patch "Cope with PCI host bridge I/O window not starting at 0"
introduced a bug in the calculation of the virtual addresses for the
I/O windows of PCI host bridges other than the first, because it
didn't account for the fact that hose->io_resource gets offset so that
it reflects the range of global I/O port numbers assigned to the
bridge. This fixes it and simplifies get_bus_io_range() in the
process.

Celleb has multiple PCI host bridges (phbs). Previous boot logic gives
non-overlapped bus IDs between PCI host bridges so you can identify
PHB by bus ID. But newer boot logic gives same bus ID between PHBs (it
gives bus ID 0 as root bus.) So we have to set 'phb->buid' as
non-zero.

The rheap allocation functions return a pointer, but the actual value is based
on how the heap was initialized, and so it can be anything, e.g. an offset
into a buffer. A ulong is a better representation of the value returned by
the allocation functions.
This patch changes all of the relevant rheap functions to use a unsigned long
integers instead of a pointer. In case of an error, the value returned is
a negative error code that has been cast to an unsigned long. The caller can
use the IS_ERR_VALUE() macro to check for this.
All code which calls the rheap functions is updated accordingly. Macros
IS_MURAM_ERR() and IS_DPERR(), have been deleted in favor of IS_ERR_VALUE().
Also added error checking to rh_attach_region().

This finally renames the thread_info field in task structure to stack, so that
the assumptions about this field are gone and archs have more freedom about
placing the thread_info structure.
Nonbroken archs which have a proper thread pointer can do the access to both
current thread and task structure via a single pointer.
It'll allow for a few more cleanups of the fork code, from which e.g. ia64
could benefit.

Since nonboot CPUs are now disabled after tasks and devices have been
frozen and the CPU hotplug infrastructure is used for this purpose, we need
special CPU hotplug notifications that will help the CPU-hotplug-aware
subsystems distinguish normal CPU hotplug events from CPU hotplug events
related to a system-wide suspend or resume operation in progress. This
patch introduces such notifications and causes them to be used during
suspend and resume transitions. It also changes all of the
CPU-hotplug-aware subsystems to take these notifications into consideration
(for now they are handled in the same way as the corresponding "normal"
ones).

Commit d1953c8888 removed the use of
4level-fixup.h for 32-bit systems under arch/powerpc. However, I
missed a few things activated on some configurations, resulting in
some warnings (at least with STRICT_MM_TYPECHECKS enabled) and build
errors in some circumstances. This fixes it.

When an EEH event is detected, and after the device driver
has been notified, but before the device is reset, enable
MMIO to the adapter, and grab the contents of the PCI status
and command registers, the PCI-X status and command, and the
PCI-E capability 10 and AER registers. Pass these up to the
RTAS error log, and also printk them.

If an EEH event is observed, capture PCI config space info about
the device, wrap it up and pass it to the event logger. This
pach just slots in the basic logging function. A later patch
will provide for more through data gathering.

It turns out many/most versions of firmware enable MMIO when
the slto-error-detail rtas call is made (in violation of the
architecture). Thus, it would be best to call slot-error-detail
only after notifying device drivers of a freeze, as otherwise,
a variety of strange and unexpected things may happen.

The SLUB allocator relies on struct page fields first_page and slab,
overwritten by ptl when SPLIT_PTLOCK: so the SLUB allocator cannot then
be used for the lowest level of pagetable pages. This was obstructing
SLUB on PowerPC, which uses kmem_caches for its pagetables. So convert
its pte level to use normal gfp pages (whereas pmd, pud and 64k-page pgd
want partpages, so continue to use kmem_caches for pmd, pud and pgd).

This adds an option to spufs when the kernel is configured for
4K page to give it the ability to use 64K pages for SPE local store
mappings.
Currently, we are optimistic and try order 4 allocations when creating
contexts. If that fails, the code will fallback to 4K automatically.

The basic issue is to be able to do what hugetlbfs does but with
different page sizes for some other special filesystems; more
specifically, my need is:
- Huge pages
- SPE local store mappings using 64K pages on a 4K base page size
kernel on Cell
- Some special 4K segments in 64K-page kernels for mapping a dodgy
type of powerpc-specific infiniband hardware that requires 4K MMU
mappings for various reasons I won't explain here.
The main issues are:
- To maintain/keep track of the page size per "segment" (as we can
only have one page size per segment on powerpc, which are 256MB
divisions of the address space).
- To make sure special mappings stay within their allotted
"segments" (including MAP_FIXED crap)
- To make sure everybody else doesn't mmap/brk/grow_stack into a
"segment" that is used for a special mapping
Some of the necessary mechanisms to handle that were present in the
hugetlbfs code, but mostly in ways not suitable for anything else.
The patch relies on some changes to the generic get_unmapped_area()
that just got merged. It still hijacks hugetlb callbacks here or
there as the generic code hasn't been entirely cleaned up yet but
that shouldn't be a problem.
So what is a slice ? Well, I re-used the mechanism used formerly by our
hugetlbfs implementation which divides the address space in
"meta-segments" which I called "slices". The division is done using
256MB slices below 4G, and 1T slices above. Thus the address space is
divided currently into 16 "low" slices and 16 "high" slices. (Special
case: high slice 0 is the area between 4G and 1T).
Doing so simplifies significantly the tracking of segments and avoids
having to keep track of all the 256MB segments in the address space.
While I used the "concepts" of hugetlbfs, I mostly re-implemented
everything in a more generic way and "ported" hugetlbfs to it.
Slices can have an associated page size, which is encoded in the mmu
context and used by the SLB miss handler to set the segment sizes. The
hash code currently doesn't care, it has a specific check for hugepages,
though I might add a mechanism to provide per-slice hash mapping
functions in the future.
The slice code provide a pair of "generic" get_unmapped_area() (bottomup
and topdown) functions that should work with any slice size. There is
some trickiness here so I would appreciate people to have a look at the
implementation of these and let me know if I got something wrong.

The code for demoting segments to 4K had some issues, like for example,
when using _PAGE_4K_PFN flag, the first CPU to hit it would do the
demotion, but other CPUs hitting the same page wouldn't properly flush
their SLBs if mmu_ci_restriction isn't set. There are also potential
issues with hash_preload not handling _PAGE_4K_PFN. All of these are
non issues on current hardware but might bite us in the future.
This patch thus fixes it by:
- Taking the test comparing the mm and current CPU context page
sizes to decide to flush SLBs out of the mmu_ci_restrictions test
since that can also be triggered by _PAGE_4K_PFN pages
- Due to the above being done all the time, demote_segment_4k
doesn't need update the context and flush the SLB
- demote_segment_4k can be static and doesn't need an EXPORT_SYMBOL
- Making hash_preload ignore anything that has either _PAGE_4K_PFN
or _PAGE_NO_CACHE set, thus avoiding duplication of the complicated
logic in hash_page() (and possibly making hash_preload a little bit
faster for the normal case).

On some powerpc architectures (notably 64-bit powermac) there is a memory
hole, for example on powermacs between 2G and 4G. Since we use the flat
memory model regardless, these pages must be marked as nosave (for suspend
to disk.)

This patch provides a debugfs knob to turn kprobes on/off
o A new file /debug/kprobes/enabled indicates if kprobes is enabled or
not (default enabled)
o Echoing 0 to this file will disarm all installed probes
o Any new probe registration when disabled will register the probe but
not arm it. A message will be printed out in such a case.
o When a value 1 is echoed to the file, all probes (including ones
registered in the intervening period) will be enabled
o Unregistration will happen irrespective of whether probes are globally
enabled or not.
o Update Documentation/kprobes.txt to reflect these changes. While there
also update the doc to make it current.
We are also looking at providing sysrq key support to tie to the disabling
feature provided by this patch.

In certain cases like when the real return address can't be found or when
the number of tracked calls to a kretprobed function is less than the
number of returns, we may not be able to find the correct return address
after processing a kretprobe. Currently we just do a BUG_ON, but no
information is provided about the actual failing kretprobe.
Print out details of the kretprobe before calling BUG().

This patch moves the die notifier handling to common code. Previous
various architectures had exactly the same code for it. Note that the new
code is compiled unconditionally, this should be understood as an appel to
the other architecture maintainer to implement support for it aswell (aka
sprinkling a notify_die or two in the proper place)
arm had a notifiy_die that did something totally different, I renamed it to
arm_notify_die as part of the patch and made it static to the file it's
declared and used at. avr32 used to pass slightly less information through
this interface and I brought it into line with the other architectures.

The console subsystem already has an idea of a boot console, using the
CON_BOOT flag. The implementation has some flaws though. The major
problem is that presence of a boot console makes register_console() ignore
any other console devices (unless explicitly specified on the kernel
command line).
This patch fixes the console selection code to *not* consider a boot
console a full-featured one, so the first non-boot console registering will
become the default console instead. This way the unregister call for the
boot console in the register_console() function actually triggers and the
handover from the boot console to the real console device works smoothly.
Added a printk for the handover, so you know which console device the
output goes to when the boot console stops printing messages.
The disable_early_printk() call is obsolete with that patch, explicitly
disabling the early console isn't needed any more as it works automagically
with that patch.
I've walked through the tree, dropped all disable_early_printk() instances
found below arch/ and tagged the consoles with CON_BOOT if needed. The
code is tested on x86, sh (thanks to Paul) and mips (thanks to Ralf).
Changes to last version: Rediffed against -rc3, adapted to mips cleanups by
Ralf, fixed "udbg-immortal" cmd line arg on powerpc.

powerpc_flash_init() implements a broken way of probing for flash
devices supported by the physmap_of driver. It finds all nodes in the
device tree with device_type=="rom" and instantiates of_platform
devices for them. This is fundamentally incompatible with the normal
and correct way of probing for of_platform_bus_probe(). Platforms
which relied on powerpc_flash_init()s behaviour (none are in-tree)
will have to update their platform probing code to correctly probe
busses containing flash devices.

This adds support for early serial debugging via the built in
port on IBM/AMCC PowerPC 44x CPUs. It uses a bolted TLB entry in
address space 1 for the UART's mapping, allowing robust debugging both
before and after the initialization of the MMU.

This adds platform support code for the Ebony (440GP) evaluation
board. This includes both code in arch/powerpc/platforms/44x for
board initialization, and zImage wrapper code to correctly tweak the
flattened device tree based on information from the firmware. The
zImage supports both IBM OpenBIOS (aka "treeboot") and old versions of
uboot which don't support a flattened device tree.

This prepares for Ebony/440 support by creating an
arch/powerpc/platforms/44x directory. It is populated with a single
misc_44x.S file, into which is moved the 44x specific reset code from
head_44x.S (on the grounds that we should really stop clogging up the
head_* files with random asm helper routines).
At the same time, we disable the (empty save Kconfig and Makefile)
arch/powerpc/platforms/4xx directory from the arch/powerpc/platforms
Makefile. Contrary to the comment in
arch/powerpc/platforms/4xx/Makefile, attempting to build such an empty
Makefile will fail, thus breaking compile for the 44x platforms we're
about to add. It can go back in once we start porting some of the 40x
platforms (and thus it becomes non-empty).

MPIC U3/U4 MSI backend. Based on code from Segher, heavily hacked by me.
This only deals with MSI on U3/U4 MPICs, aka. CPC 9x5.
If we find a U3/U4 then we enable this backend, ie. take over the ppc_md
MSI hooks. We might need more elaborate logic in future to decide which
backend is enabled.
We need our own irq_chip so that we can do MSI masking/unmasking on
the device itself. We also need to mask explicitly on shutdown to make
sure we don't get bitten by lazy-disable semantics.

To support MSI on MPIC we need a way to reserve and allocate hardware irq
numbers, this patch implements an allocator for that purpose.
New firmware platforms must define a "msi-available-ranges" property on their
MPIC node for MSI to work. For U3/U4 we do a best-guess setup.

Implement MSI support via RTAS (RTAS = run-time firmware on pSeries
machines). For now we assumes that if the required RTAS tokens for
MSI are present, then we want to use the RTAS MSI routines.
When RTAS is managing MSIs for us, it will/may enable MSI on devices that
support it by default. This is contrary to the Linux model where a device
is in LSI mode until the driver requests MSIs.
To remedy this we add a pci_irq_fixup call, which disables MSI if they've
been assigned by firmware and the device also supports LSI. Devices that
don't support LSI at all will be left as is, drivers are still expected
to call pci_enable_msi() before using the device.
At the moment there is no pci_irq_fixup on pSeries, so we can just set it
unconditionally. If other platforms use the RTAS MSI backend they'll need
to check that still holds.

This provides the architecture specific hooks to support MSI on
powerpc. We implement the newly added arch_setup_msi_irqs() and
arch_teardown_msi_irqs(), and then delegate to ppc_md routines.
Platforms that don't implement MSI will leave the ppc_md calls blank,
arch_msi_check_device() will detect this and return ENOSYS. Drivers
should detect this error and continue to use LSI.

For 32-bit systems, powerpc still relies on the 4level-fixup.h hack,
to pretend that the generic pagetable handling stuff is 3-levels
rather than 4. This patch removes this, instead using the newer
pgtable-nopmd.h to handle the elision of both the pud and pmd
pagetable levels (ppc32 pagetables are actually 2 levels).
This removes a little extraneous code, and makes it more easily
compared to the 64-bit pagetable code.

Adds the pSeries platform implementation for a new PCI API
which can be used to issue various types of PCI-E reset,
including PCI-E warm reset and PCI-E hot reset. This is needed
for an ipr PCI-E adapter which does not properly implement BIST.
Running BIST on this adapter results in PCI-E errors. The only
reliable reset mechanism that exists on this hardware is PCI
Fundamental reset (warm reset).

Add a phy_type field to the tsi108 ethernet structures to indicate which PHY
is used on a board. This is derived from the "compatible" property in the
ethernet-phy node of the device tree. The default remains the MV88E PHY.
Also, convert the setup code to use of_get_mac_address instead of hard coding
a lookup for the "address" property in the ethernet node.

Currently our code to set up the data structures for a PCI host bridge
and create the mapping for its I/O window assumes that the window
starts at I/O port 0 on the PCI side. If this is not true, we can end
up with I/O port numbers in the resources for PCI devices which will
cause an oops if a driver tries to access them via inb/outb etc.,
because there is no mapping for the corresponding addresses.
Normally the I/O window starts at 0, but there are some situations on
partitioned machines with a hypervisor where the window may not start
at 0.
This fixes the problem by allocating space for the range from 0 to the
end of the I/O window. That is, hose->io_base_virt contains the
virtual address for I/O port 0 on the PCI bus, and thus the assumption
that hose->io_base_virt - pci_io_base is the offset between the
"global" I/O port numbers (those in the PCI device resources) and the
I/O port numbers on the PCI bus is maintained.
For PCI host bridges that are present at boot, we only map the portion
of that range that correspond to the bridge's I/O window. For bridges
added after boot we ioremap the range from 0 to the end of the I/O
window, for now; in fact hot-added bridges should be using
reserve_phb_iospace() and __ioremap_explicit (so they get sensible
global port numbers), but we don't have the infrastructure yet to do
that (basically a free_phb_iospace() routine plus appropriate
locking).
Interestingly, this makes the two arms of the if statement in
get_bus_io_range do almost exactly the same thing; that function could
now be simplified in a further patch.

I have never seen a use of SLAB_DEBUG_INITIAL. It is only supported by
SLAB.
I think its purpose was to have a callback after an object has been freed
to verify that the state is the constructor state again? The callback is
performed before each freeing of an object.
I would think that it is much easier to check the object state manually
before the free. That also places the check near the code object
manipulation of the object.
Also the SLAB_DEBUG_INITIAL callback is only performed if the kernel was
compiled with SLAB debugging on. If there would be code in a constructor
handling SLAB_DEBUG_INITIAL then it would have to be conditional on
SLAB_DEBUG otherwise it would just be dead code. But there is no such code
in the kernel. I think SLUB_DEBUG_INITIAL is too problematic to make real
use of, difficult to understand and there are easier ways to accomplish the
same effect (i.e. add debug code before kfree).
There is a related flag SLAB_CTOR_VERIFY that is frequently checked to be
clear in fs inode caches. Remove the pointless checks (they would even be
pointless without removeal of SLAB_DEBUG_INITIAL) from the fs constructors.
This is the last slab flag that SLUB did not support. Remove the check for
unimplemented flags from SLUB.

The current get_unmapped_area code calls the f_ops->get_unmapped_area or the
arch one (via the mm) only when MAP_FIXED is not passed. That makes it
impossible for archs to impose proper constraints on regions of the virtual
address space. To work around that, get_unmapped_area() then calls some
hugetlbfs specific hacks.
This cause several problems, among others:
- It makes it impossible for a driver or filesystem to do the same thing
that hugetlbfs does (for example, to allow a driver to use larger page sizes
to map external hardware) if that requires applying a constraint on the
addresses (constraining that mapping in certain regions and other mappings
out of those regions).
- Some archs like arm, mips, sparc, sparc64, sh and sh64 already want
MAP_FIXED to be passed down in order to deal with aliasing issues. The code
is there to handle it... but is never called.
This series of patches moves the logic to handle MAP_FIXED down to the various
arch/driver get_unmapped_area() implementations, and then changes the generic
code to always call them. The hugetlbfs hacks then disappear from the generic
code.
Since I need to do some special 64K pages mappings for SPEs on cell, I need to
work around the first problem at least. I have further patches thus
implementing a "slices" layer that handles multiple page sizes through slices
of the address space for use by hugetlbfs, the SPE code, and possibly others,
but it requires that serie of patches first/
There is still a potential (but not practical) issue due to the fact that
filesystems/drivers implemeting g_u_a will effectively bypass all arch checks.
This is not an issue in practice as the only filesystems/drivers using that
hook are doing so for arch specific purposes in the first place.
There is also a problem with mremap that will completely bypass all arch
checks. I'll try to address that separately, I'm not 100% certain yet how,
possibly by making it not work when the vma has a file whose f_ops has a
get_unmapped_area callback, and by making it use is_hugepage_only_range()
before expanding into a new area.
Also, I want to turn is_hugepage_only_range() into a more generic
is_normal_page_range() as that's really what it will end up meaning when used
in stack grow, brk grow and mremap.
None of the above "issues" however are introduced by this patch, they are
already there, so I think the patch can go ini for 2.6.22.
This patch:
Handle MAP_FIXED in powerpc's arch_get_unmapped_area() in all 3
implementations of it.

It is not necessary to tell the slab allocators to align to a cacheline
if an explicit alignment was already specified. It is rather confusing
to specify multiple alignments.

The flag SLAB_MUST_HWCACHE_ALIGN is
1. Never checked by SLAB at all.
2. A duplicate of SLAB_HWCACHE_ALIGN for SLUB
3. Fulfills the role of SLAB_HWCACHE_ALIGN for SLOB.
The only remaining use is in sparc64 and ppc64 and their use there
reflects some earlier role that the slab flag once may have had. If
its specified then SLAB_HWCACHE_ALIGN is also specified.
The flag is confusing, inconsistent and has no purpose.
Remove it.

PowerPC uses the slab allocator to manage the lowest level of the page
table. In high cpu configurations we also use the page struct to split the
page table lock. Disallow the selection of SLUB for that case.

At present, the serial core always allows setserial in userspace to change the
port address, irq and base clock of any serial port. That makes sense for
legacy ISA ports, but not for (say) embedded ns16550 compatible serial ports
at peculiar addresses. In these cases, the kernel code configuring the ports
must know exactly where they are, and their clocking arrangements (which can
be unusual on embedded boards). It doesn't make sense for userspace to change
these settings.
Therefore, this patch defines a UPF_FIXED_PORT flag for the uart_port
structure. If this flag is set when the serial port is configured, any
attempts to alter the port's type, io address, irq or base clock with
setserial are ignored.
In addition this patch uses the new flag for on-chip serial ports probed in
arch/powerpc/kernel/legacy_serial.c, and for other hard-wired serial ports
probed by drivers/serial/of_serial.c.

Implement deep-sleep on MPC52xx.
SDRAM is put into self-refresh with help of SRAM code
(alternatives would be code in FLASH, I-cache).
Interrupt code must also not be in SDRAM, so put it
in I-cache.
MPC52xx core is static, so contents will remain intact even
with clocks turned off.

Apparently other parts of the kernel need to know the
modalias internally (like the sysfs code in macintosh driver).
To avoid consistency issues, we export this code and use it
everywhere it's needed rather than repeat it ...

This patch fixes a couple of missing dependencies in
arch/powerpc/boot/Makefile. First, it ensures that the zlib.h header
is linked in before attempting to build gunzip_util.o, as it is,
building gunzip_util.o usually works, but not always depending on make
order.
Second, it makes the final images which are built using a dts
dependent on that dts, so the image will be correctly rebuilt if the
dts changes. This in turn requires fixing the definition of the dts
variable. CONFIG_DEVICE_TREE from Kconfig will have quotes around it,
which don't matter when passing the variable to a shell, but which
need to be removed when incorporating it into a filename for make's
use.

Powermac G5 suspend to disk implementation. The code is platform
agnostic but only tested on powermac, no other 64-bit powerpc
machines.
Because nvidiafb still breaks suspend I have marked it EXPERIMENTAL on
powermac and because I can't test it and some lowlevel code will need
changes it is BROKEN on all other 64-bit platforms.

This allows "hotplugging" of CPUs on G5 machines. CPUs that are
disabled are put into an idle loop with the decrementer frequency set
to minimum. To wake them up again we kick them just like when bringing
them up. To stop those CPUs from messing with any global state we stop
them from entering the timer interrupt.

Add a new function named smp_call_function_single(). This matches a generic
prototype from include/linux/smp.h.
Add a function smp_call_function_map(). This is, for the most part, a rename
of smp_call_function, with some added cpumask support. smp_call_function and
smp_call_function_single call into smp_call_function_map.
Lightly tested on 970mp (blade), power4 and power5.

This fixes a couple of kexec problems related to 64K page
support in the kernel. kexec issues a tlbie for each pte. The
parameters for the tlbie are the page size and the virtual address.
Support was missing for the computation of these two parameters
for 64K pages. This adds that support.

I noticed that many source files include <linux/pci.h> while they do
not appear to need it. Here is an attempt to clean it all up.
In order to find all possibly affected files, I searched for all
files including <linux/pci.h> but without any other occurence of "pci"
or "PCI". I removed the include statement from all of these, then I
compiled an allmodconfig kernel on both i386 and x86_64 and fixed the
false positives manually.
My tests covered 66% of the affected files, so there could be false
positives remaining. Untested files are:

We need to work on cleaning up the relationship between kobjects, ksets and
ktypes. The removal of 'struct subsystem' is the first step of this,
especially as it is not really needed at all.

Let's allow page-alignment in general for per-cpu data (wanted by Xen, and
Ingo suggested KVM as well).
Because larger alignments can use more room, we increase the max per-cpu
memory to 64k rather than 32k: it's getting a little tight.

o __pa() should be used only on kernel linearly mapped virtual addresses
and not on kernel text and data addresses.
o Hibernation code needs to determine the physical address associated
with kernel symbol to mark a section boundary which contains pages which
don't have to be saved and restored during hibernate/resume operation.
o Move this piece of code in arch dependent section. So that architectures
which don't have kernel text/data mapped into kernel linearly mapped
region can come up with their own ways of determining physical addresses
associated with a kernel text.

This patch makes a few small cleanups to the cuboot code.
- It removes the double layered selection of images, via
cuboot-plat-y, instead having the cuboot platforms directly select a
suitable image-y (this changes the name of the final cuboot image from
plain cuImage to cuImage.<platform>).
- Factors out some code in the wrapper that's potentially
useful to platforms other than uboot.

The PS3 HV will deliver soft-disabled interrupts at the next HV call or
interrupt. Add an HV call to local_irq_restore() to force the timely
delivery of any pending interrupts.
This fixes the system slowdown bug reported here

In commit 0fba3a1f39 (a very long time ago,
May 2006), I fixed a bug that caused powermacs to crash when you tried
entering standby/mem suspend states.
As I'm now getting more familiar with the suspend code I notice a few
more things:
1. we previously misunderstood what pm_ops is for, it isn't supposed to be
for doing platform dependent suspend/resume stuff that needs to be done
for suspend to disk (as we currently try to use it!), it is instead for
entering platform dependent suspend states ("standby", "mem").
2. due to the first point, we never properly save FPU and altivec states
when suspending to disk. It probably hasn't hurt yet because the process
that writes the "disk" to /sys/power/state uses neither and its context
is used.
This patch addresses these points as follows:
1. remove all pm_ops from powermac, powermac suspend to ram isn't currently
usable via /sys/power/state but is done via the PMU instead.
2. move the code responsible for storing FPU/altivec state into
save_processor_state and the set_context() call to restore_processor_state.
3. add a call to kernel_enable_spe()
It may look like there is some code removal missing but that is
actually because the new suspend.h file overrides the ppc/suspend.h
one which was previously used.

Since we don't have it active by default, the STRICT_MM_TYPECHECKS
option has bitrotted again. This patch fixes a couple of simple build
fixes if the option is selected. First, pud_t mustn't be defined in
page.h on 32-bit systems, because it conflicts with the version in the
generic pud-folding code. Second, pci_32.c is missing a __pgprot()
wrapper call. Third, a couple of PS3 files use constants of type
pgprot_t when they need the raw values, we add pgprot_val() calls to
fix this.

This patch takes the definitions for the PPC44x MMU (a software loaded
TLB) from asm-ppc/mmu.h, cleans them up of things no longer necessary
in arch/powerpc and puts them in a new asm-powerpc/mmu_44x.h file. It
also substantially simplifies arch/powerpc/mm/44x_mmu.c and makes a
couple of small fixes necessary for the 44x MMU code to build and work
properly in arch/powerpc.

Some versions of pSeries firmware fail to set up a
dma-window property for PCI slots that are unoccupied.
As a result, the loop searching for this propery, in
pci_dma_dev_setup_pSeriesLP(), can run to the end, resulting
in a NULL pointer dereference later in the routine. This
patch prevents the crash, and prints a warning message.
This is theoretically a rare error, as it occurs on what
is hopefully just beta levels of firmware. But just in case
this firmware escapes into the wild, this patch will avoid
the crash.

The original code here is wrong, it applies "previous" knowledge.
The way the cpufreq core is designed is that the policy for the
secondary CPU that comes online says that it must in fact not
use this policy but use the same as the other CPUs that are
listed, which in fact is CPU#0.

check_legacy_ioport makes only sense on PREP, CHRP and pSeries.
They may have an isa node with PS/2, parport, floppy and serial ports.
Remove the check_legacy_ioport call from ppc_md, it's not needed
anymore. Hardware capabilities come from the device-tree.

The uppermost part of memory is where u-boot puts the stack, so don't
include that in the heap. It's not currently causing problems, as the
current code allocates from the bottom of the heap, but this will keep
things from potentially breaking if a future implementation were to
allocate from the top.

1. copy_val() was copying into the wrong end of the array, resulting
in random stack garbage at the other end.
2. dt_xlate_reg() was getting the result from the wrong end of the array.
3. add_reg() and sub_reg() were treating the arrays as
little-endian rather than big-endian.
4. add_reg() only returned an error on a carry out of the entire
array, rather than out of the naddr portion.
5. The requested reg resource was checked to see if it exceeded
the size of the reg property, but not to see if it exceeded the
size of the buffer.

32-bit powerpc systems define a macro, PHYS_FMT, giving a printf
format string fragment for displaying physical addresses, since most
32-bit powerpc platforms use 32-bit physical addresses but a few use
64-bit physical addresses.
This macro is used in exactly one place, a rare error message, where
we can solve the problem more simply by just unconditionally casting
the address up to 64-bit quantity before formatting it.
This patch does so, meaning that as we bring MMU definitions from
asm-ppc over to asm-powerpc, cleaning them up in the process, we don't
need to implement this ugly macro (which additionally has a very bad
name for something global).

BenH's commit a741e67969 in powerpc.git,
although (AFAICT) only intended to affect ppc64, also has side-effects
which break 44x. I think 40x, 8xx and Freescale Book E are also
affected, though I haven't tested them.
The problem lies in unconditionally removing flush_tlb_pending() from
the versions of flush_tlb_mm(), flush_tlb_range() and
flush_tlb_kernel_range() used on ppc64 - which are also used the
embedded platforms mentioned above.
The patch below cleans up the convoluted #ifdef logic in tlbflush.h,
in the process restoring the necessary flushes for the software TLB
platforms. There are three sets of definitions for the flushing
hooks: the software TLB versions (revised to avoid using names which
appear to related to TLB batching), the 32-bit hash based versions
(external functions) amd the 64-bit hash based versions (which
implement batching).
It also moves the declaration of update_mmu_cache() to always be in
tlbflush.h (previously it was in tlbflush.h except for PPC64, where it
was in pgtable.h).
Booted on Ebony (440GP) and compiled for 64-bit and 32-bit
multiplatform.

Save the trap number in the case of getting a bad stack in an exception
handler. It is sometimes useful to know what exception it was that caused
this to happen. Without this, no trap number is reported.

Now that we always take a device tree in arch/powerpc, there's no good
reason not to allow a single kernel to support multiple embedded 4xx
boards - the correct platform code can be selected based on the device
tree information.
Therefore, this patch re-arranges the 4xx Kconfig code to allow this.
In addition we:
- use "select" instead of depends to configure the correct
config options for specific 4xx CPUs and workarounds, which
makes the information about specific boards and CPUs less
scattered.
- Some old, unused (in arch/powerpc) config options are
removed: WANT_EARLY_SERIAL, IBM_OCP, etc.

This provides a way to tell the bootwrapper makefile which device tree to
include by default. The wrapper can still be invoked standalone to wrap
with a different device tree without reconfiguring the kernel, if that is
desired.
The user will only be asked to provide a device tree if the platform
selects CONFIG_WANT_DEVICE_TREE.

Device 0 function 0 on the root bus is really a two-function bus agent,
but only the first function is visible. Because of this, we need to
allow config accesses into the second range. Modify the check for valid
offsets accordingly.

PowerPC 750CL has high BATs. The patch below adds a CPU_FTRS_750CL that
includes that. Without it, the original firmware mappings in the high BATs
aren't cleared which continue to override the linux translations.
It also adds CPU_FTR_COMMON to CPU_FTRS_750GX for completeness.

Enable Periodic Recalibration (PTCAL) support for Cell XDR memory,
using the new ibm,cbe-start-ptcal and ibm,cbe-stop-ptcal RTAS calls.
Tested on QS20 and QS21 (by Thomas Huth). It seems that SLOF has
problems disabling, at least on QS20; this patch should only be
used once these problems have been addressed.

This patch adds a check for the private driver data to be initialized.
The bug showed up, as the caller found a pmi device by it's type.
Whereas the pmi driver probes for the type and the name.
Since the name was not as the driver expected, it did not initialize.
A more relaxed probing will be supplied with an extra patch, too.

GCC may generates inline copy loop to handle memcpy() function
instead of kernel defined memcpy(). But this inlined version of memcpy()
causes an alignment interrupt when copying from local store.
This patch uses memcpy_fromio() and memcpy_toio to copy local store
to prevent memcpy() being inlined.

When SPU isolation mode enabled, isolated_loader would be
allocated by spufs_init_isolated_loader() on module_init().
But anyone do not free it.
This patch introduces spufs_exit_isolated_loader() which is
the opposite of spufs_init_isolated_loader() and called on
module_exit().

Until now, we have always entered the spu page fault handler
with a mutex for the spu context held. This has multiple
bad side-effects:
- it becomes impossible to suspend the context during
page faults
- if an spu program attempts to access its own mmio
areas through DMA, we get an immediate livelock when
the nopage function tries to acquire the same mutex
This patch makes the page fault logic operate on a
struct spu_context instead of a struct spu, and moves it
from spu_base.c to a new file fault.c inside of spufs.
We now also need to copy the dar and dsisr contents
of the last fault into the saved context to have it
accessible in case we schedule out the context before
activating the page fault handler.

For quite a while now spu state is protected by a simple mutex instead
of the old rw_semaphore, and this means we can simplify the locking
around spu_setup_isolated a lot.
Instead of doing an spu_release before entering spu_setup_isolated and
then calling the complicated spu_acquire_exclusive we can now simply
enter the function locked an in guaranteed runnable state, so that the
only bit of spu_acquire_exclusive that's left is the call to
spu_unmap_mappings.
Similarly there's no more need to unlock and reacquire the state_mutex
when spu_setup_isolated is done, but we can always return with the
lock held and only drop it in spu_run_init in the failure case.

A single context should only be woken once, and we should not have
more wakeups for a given priority than the number of contexts on
that runqueue position.
Also add some asserts to trap future problems in this area more

Make sure the pointers to various mappings are cleared once the last
user stopped using them. This avoids accessing freed memory when
tearing down the gang directory aswell as optimizing away
pte invalidations if no one uses these.

Commit 79c8541924 introduced code to move
the initrd if it was in a place where it would get overwritten by the
kernel image. Unfortunately this exposed the fact that the code that
checks whether the values passed in r3 and r4 are intended to indicate
the start address and size of an initrd image was not as thorough as the
kernel's checks. The symptom is that on OF-based platforms, the
bootwrapper can cause an exception which causes the system to drop back
into OF.
Previously it didn't matter so much if the code incorrectly thought that
there was an initrd, since the values for start and size were just passed
through to the kernel. Now the bootwrapper needs to apply the same checks
as the kernel since it is now using the initrd data itself (in the process
of copying it if necessary). This adds the code to do that.

In some cases, multiple OFDT nodes might share the same location code, so
the location code is not a unique identifier for an OFDT node. Changed the
ibmebus probe/remove interface to use the DT path of the device node instead
of the location code.
The DT path must be written into probe/remove right as it would appear in
the "devspec" attribute of the ebus device: relative to the DT root, with a
leading slash and without a trailing slash. One trailing newline will not
hurt; multiple newlines will (like perl's chomp()).
Example:
Add a device "/proc/device-tree/foo@12345678" to ibmebus like this:
echo /foo@12345678 > /sys/bus/ibmebus/probe
Remove the device like this:
echo /foo@12345678 > /sys/bus/ibmebus/remove

Here's an implementation of DEBUG_PAGEALLOC for 64 bits powerpc.
It applies on top of the 32 bits patch.
Unlike Anton's previous attempt, I'm not using updatepp. I'm removing
the hash entries from the bolted mapping (using a map in RAM of all the
slots). Expensive but it doesn't really matter, does it ? :-)
Memory hot-added doesn't benefit from this unless it's added at an
address that is below end_of_DRAM() as calculated at boot time.

Here's an implementation of DEBUG_PAGEALLOC for ppc32. It disables BAT
mapping and is only tested with Hash table based processor though it
shouldn't be too hard to adapt it to others.

On hash table based 32 bits powerpc's, the hash management code runs with
a big spinlock. It's thus important that it never causes itself a hash
fault. That code is generally safe (it does memory accesses in real mode
among other things) with the exception of the actual access to the code
itself. That is, the kernel text needs to be accessible without taking
a hash miss exceptions.
This is currently guaranteed by having a BAT register mapping part of the
linear mapping permanently, which includes the kernel text. But this is
not true if using the "nobats" kernel command line option (which can be
useful for debugging) and will not be true when using DEBUG_PAGEALLOC
implemented in a subsequent patch.
This patch fixes this by pre-faulting in the hash table pages that hit
the kernel text, and making sure we never evict such a page under hash
pressure.
