arm: traps: emulate a MRRC instruction reading CNTVCT register
In addition to emulating CNTPCT access, emulate CNTVCT access too, so that userspace can get CNTVCT value, if the direct counter read is disabled. Also, keep direct access disabled by default for userspace. Change-Id: I70263c129386314880cb28d1e561146ce62d52b8 Signed-off-by: Neeraj Upadhyay <neeraju@codeaurora.org> |

clocksource: arch_timer: Disable user access to the physical counter
Disable user access to physical counter. This reverts commit 63cb2598d5ba ("clocksource: arch_timer: Enable user access to the physical counter"). This could potentially break the userspace applications using physical counters; but all those usages should move to using virtual counter, to get the timing information. clocksource/drivers/vt8500: Increase the minimum delta
commit f9eccf24615672896dc13251410c3f2f33a14f95 upstream. The vt8500 clocksource driver declares itself as capable to handle the minimum delay of 4 cycles by passing the value into clockevents_config_and_register(). The vt8500_timer_set_next_event() requires the passed cycles value to be at least 16. The impact is that userspace hangs in nanosleep() calls with small delay intervals. This problem is reproducible in Linux 4.2 starting from: c6eb3f70d448 ('hrtimer: Get rid of hrtimer softirq') From Russell King, more detailed explanation: "It's a speciality of the StrongARM/PXA hardware. It takes a certain number of OSCR cycles for the value written to hit the compare registers. So, if a very small delta is written (eg, the compare register is written with a value of OSCR + 1), the OSCR will have incremented past this value before it hits the underlying hardware. The result is, that you end up waiting a very long time for the OSCR to wrap before the event fires. So, we introduce a check in set_next_event() to detect this and return -ETIME if the calculated delta is too small, which causes the generic clockevents code to retry after adding the min_delta specified in clockevents_config_and_register() to the current time value. min_delta must be sufficient that we don't re-trip the -ETIME check - if we do, we will return -ETIME, forward the next event time, try to set it, return -ETIME again, and basically lock the system up. So, min_delta must be larger than the check inside set_next_event(). A factor of two was chosen to ensure that this situation would never occur. The PXA code worked on PXA systems for years, and I'd suggest no one changes this mechanism without access to a wide range of PXA systems, otherwise they're risking breakage." arm: traps: emulate a MRCC instruction reading CNTPCT register
A user space application is planned to support feature for synchronized timestamp among debug packets across peripherals. As part of the feature, it is responsible for providing physical timer count value to user space. If memory mapped timer is used in ARM arch, Usersapce can't read the physical timer count directly with a MRCC ASM instruction. So Kernel traps the instruction and returns the physical timer count. clocksource: exynos_mct: Fix bitmask regression for exynos4_mct_write
commit 8c38d28ba8da98f7102c31d35359b4dbe9d1f329 upstream. EXYNOS4_MCT_L_MASK is defined as 0xffffff00, so applying this bitmask produces a number outside the range 0x00 to 0xff, which always results in execution of the default switch statement. Obviously this is wrong and git history shows that the bitmask inversion was incorrectly set during a refactoring of the MCT code. Fix this by putting the inversion at the correct position again. drivers: clocksource: add support for ARM architected timer event stream
The ARM architected timer can generate events (used for waking up CPUs executing the wfe instruction) at a frequency represented as a power-of-2 divisor of the clock rate. An event stream might be used: - To implement wfe-based timeouts for userspace locking implementations. - To impose a timeout on a wfe for safeguarding against any programming error in case an expected event is not generated. This patch computes the event stream frequency aiming for a period of 100us between events. It uses ARM/ARM64 specific backends to configure and enable the event stream. clocksource: arm_arch_timer: Enable counter access for 32-bit ARM
The only difference between arm and arm64's implementations of arch_counter_set_user_access is that 32-bit ARM does not enable user access to the virtual counter. We want to enable this access for the 32-bit ARM VDSO, so copy the arm64 version to the driver itself, and remove the arch-specific implementations. clocksource: Exynos_mct: Register clock event after request_irq()
commit 8db6e5104b77de5d0b7002b95069da0992a34be9 upstream. After hotplugging CPU1 the first call of interrupt handler for CPU1 oneshot timer was called on CPU0 because it fired before setting IRQ affinity. Affected are SoCs where Multi Core Timer interrupts are shared (SPI), e.g. Exynos 4210. During setup of the MCT timers the clock event device should be registered after setting the affinity for interrupt. This will prevent starting the timer too early. clocksource: arch_timer: Do not register arch_sys_counter twice
Commit: 65cd4f6 ("arch_timer: Move to generic sched_clock framework") added code to register the arch_sys_counter in arch_timer_register(), but it is already registered in arch_counter_register(). This results in the timer being added to the clocksource list twice, therefore causing an infinite loop in the list. Remove the duplicate registration and register the scheduler clock after the original registration instead. This fixes a hang during boot on Tegra114 (Cortex-A15). First off, we don't subtract the start value from subsequent

sched_clock returning gigantic numbers. Second, there is no

commit 0d651e4e65e96989f72236bf83bd4c6e55eb6ce4 upstream. Switching between reading the virtual or physical counters is problematic, as some core code wants a view of time before we're fully set up. Using a function pointer and switching the source after the first read can make time appear to go backwards, and having a check in the read function is an unfortunate block on what we want to be a fast path. Instead, this patch makes us always use the virtual counters. If we're a guest, or don't have hyp mode, we'll use the virtual timers, and as such don't care about CNTVOFF as long as it doesn't change in such a way as to make time appear to travel backwards. As the guest will use the virtual timers, a (potential) KVM host must use the physical timers (which can wake up the host even if they fire while a guest is executing), and hence a host must have CNTVOFF set to zero so as to have a consistent view of time between the physical timers and virtual counters. The ARM architected timers keep counting during suspend so we can mark this clocksource with the CLOCK_SOURCE_SUSPEND_NONSTOP. This will usually be more accurate than using an external RTC or architecture specific persistent clock. clocksource: arch_timer: Add support for memory mapped timers
Add support for the memory mapped timers by filling in the read/write functions and adding some parsing code. Note that we only register one clocksource, preferring the cp15 based clocksource over the mmio one. To keep things simple we register one global clockevent. This covers the case of UP and SMP systems with only mmio hardware and systems where the memory mapped timers are used as the broadcast timer in low power modes. The DT binding allows for per-CPU memory mapped timers in case we want to support that in the future, but the code isn't added here. We also don't do much for hypervisor support, although it should be possible to support it by searching for at least two frames where one frame has the virtual capability and then updating KVM timers to support it. arm: arch_timer: Enable timer in set_mode only
Currently, we enable the timer hardware and unmask its interrupt in the set_next_event callback. However, during hotplug, this callback can be called after the timer is already supposed to be disabled. Since the timer will be completely turned back on by set_next_event, we will soon receive an interrupt, potentially causing us to wake up from hotplug. Instead, continue unmasking the interrupt when set_next_event is called, but only enable the timer hardware in the set_mode callback. This means that, once arch_timer_disable is called, we are guaranteed to not receive more timer interrupts until the cpu is intentionally hotplugged back in. ARM: arch timer: Set the TVAL before timer is enabled
Currently we enable the timer and unmask the interrupt before setting the TVAL. (in commit 9c642ecd6b71bb068c8a931285dc1dce043b137c) This could cause a regression by opening a window where TVAL can be negative (from a previous timer trigger) and the interrupt unmasked, which would lead to an immediate trigger, before TVAL is updated with the new value. We need to set the TVAL after unmasking the interrupt, but before enabling the timer. Change-Id: I4989834f5dd50aa72e4e97f9ab15b82931bfdd1c Signed-off-by: Rohit Vaswani <rvaswani@codeaurora.org> |

ARM: late Exynos multiplatform changes
These continue the multiplatform support for exynos, adding support for building most of the essential drivers (clocksource, clk, irqchip) when combined with other platforms. As a result, it should become really easy to add full multiplatform exynos support in 3.11, although we don't yet enable it for 3.10. ARM: arm-soc driver changes for 3.10
This is a rather large set of patches for device drivers that for one reason or another the subsystem maintainer preferred to get merged through the arm-soc tree. There are both new drivers as well as existing drivers that are getting converted from platform-specific code into standalone drivers using the appropriate subsystem specific interfaces. In particular, we can now have pinctrl, clk, clksource and irqchip drivers in one file per driver, without the need to call into platform specific interface, or to get called from platform specific code, as long as all information about the hardware is provided through a device tree. Most of the drivers we touch this time are for clocksource. Since now most of them are part of drivers/clocksource, I expect that we won't have to touch these again from arm-soc and can let the clocksource maintainers take care of these in the future. Another larger part of this series is specific to the exynos platform, which is seeing some significant effort in upstreaming and modernization of its device drivers this time around, which unfortunately is also the cause for the churn and a lot of the merge conflicts. There is one new subsystem that gets merged as part of this series: the reset controller interface, which is a very simple interface for taking devices on the SoC out of reset or back into reset. Patches to use this interface on i.MX follow later in this merge window, and we are going to have other platforms (at least tegra and sirf) get converted in 3.11. This will let us get rid of platform specific callbacks in a number of platform independent device drivers. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.11 (GNU/Linux) iQIcBAABAgAGBQJRhKUsAAoJEIwa5zzehBx3Ug4P/RqEen15hxS/NY8SIVRAU5c0 G9ZiSPcLmvXGR/t1RZFeLWKaKOYRb2oW1EbXrlkddprkmg85RuQE/KMpCgzPPhVC Yrs8UaagMGblaLOjwavVjin/CUXZokRdMfsQoIyMGOezmVGFnv4d4Kt64IOf35DF 24vDv/QO0BAI9k6m6WLqlWvSshb0IkW8r2LneRLnMEAVop7b1xkOxz0sR6l0LWfV 6JAMXyTjJMg0t8uCVW/QyNdxcxINHhV4SYcNkzF3EZ7ol50OiJsT9fg0XW759+Wb vlX6Xuehg+CBOg+g3ZOZuR8JOEkOhAGRSzuJkk/TmLCCxc+ghnuYz8HArxh6GMHK KaxvogLIi0ZsD94A/BZIKkDtOLWlzdz2HBrYo9PTz8zrOz/gXhwQ3zq0jPccC5E0 S+YYiobCBXepknF9301ti7wGD9VDzI8nmqOKG6tEBrD3xuO+RoBv+z4pBugN4/1C DlB19gOz60G5kniziL+wlmWER2qXmYrQZqS+s6+B2XoyoETC0Yij3Rck5vyC6qIK A2sni+Y9rzNOB9nzmnISP/UiGUffCy8AV4DZJjMSl0XkF4cpOXqRVGZ2nGB4tR5q GTOETcDCo5dvMDKX7Wfrz40CQzO39tnPCddg3OIS93ZwMpCeykIlb1FVL7RcsyF7 3uikzYHlDo3C5pvtJ5TS =ZWk9 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'drivers-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arm/arm-soc Pull ARM SoC driver changes from Olof Johansson: "This is a rather large set of patches for device drivers that for one reason or another the subsystem maintainer preferred to get merged through the arm-soc tree. Merge branch 'timers-core-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip
Pull core timer updates from Ingo Molnar: "The main changes in this cycle's merge are: - Implement shadow timekeeper to shorten in kernel reader side blocking, by Thomas Gleixner. - Posix timers enhancements by Pavel Emelyanov: - allocate timer ID per process, so that exact timer ID allocations can be re-created be checkpoint/restore code. - debuggability and tooling (/proc/PID/timers, etc.) improvements. - suspend/resume enhancements by Feng Tang: on certain new Intel Atom processors (Penwell and Cloverview), there is a feature that the TSC won't stop in S3 state, so the TSC value won't be reset to 0 after resume. This can be taken advantage of by the generic via the CLOCK_SOURCE_SUSPEND_NONSTOP flag: instead of using the RTC to recover/approximate sleep time, the main (and precise) clocksource can be used. - Fix /proc/timer_list for 4096 CPUs by Nathan Zimmer: on so many CPUs the file goes beyond 4MB of size and thus the current simplistic seqfile approach fails. Convert /proc/timer_list to a proper seq_file with its own iterator. - Cleanups and refactorings of the core timekeeping code by John Stultz. - International Atomic Clock time is managed by the NTP code internally currently but not exposed externally. Separate the TAI code out and add CLOCK_TAI support and TAI support to the hrtimer and posix-timer code, by John Stultz. - Add deep idle support enhacement to the broadcast clockevents core timer code, by Daniel Lezcano: add an opt-in CLOCK_EVT_FEAT_DYNIRQ clockevents feature (which will be utilized by future clockevents driver updates), which allows the use of IRQ affinities to avoid spurious wakeups of idle CPUs - the right CPU with an expiring timer will be woken. - Add new ARM bcm281xx clocksource driver, by Christian Daudt - ... various other fixes and cleanups" * 'timers-core-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip: (52 commits) clockevents: Set dummy handler on CPU_DEAD shutdown timekeeping: Update tk->cycle_last in resume posix-timers: Remove unused variable clockevents: Switch into oneshot mode even if broadcast registered late timer_list: Convert timer list to be a proper seq_file timer_list: Split timer_list_show_tickdevices posix-timers: Show sigevent info in proc file posix-timers: Introduce /proc/PID/timers file posix timers: Allocate timer id per process (v2) timekeeping: Make sure to notify hrtimers when TAI offset changes hrtimer: Fix ktime_add_ns() overflow on 32bit architectures hrtimer: Add expiry time overflow check in hrtimer_interrupt timekeeping: Shorten seq_count region timekeeping: Implement a shadow timekeeper timekeeping: Delay update of clock->cycle_last timekeeping: Store cycle_last value in timekeeper struct as well ntp: Remove ntp_lock, using the timekeeping locks to protect ntp state timekeeping: Simplify tai updating from do_adjtimex timekeeping: Hold timekeepering locks in do_adjtimex and hardpps timekeeping: Move ADJ_SETOFFSET to top level do_adjtimex() ... |

clocksource: samsung_pwm_timer: Work around rounding errors in clockevents core
Due to rounding errors in clockevents core (in conversions between ticks and nsecs), it might happen that the set_next_event callback gets called with cycles = 0, causing the code to incorrectly program the PWM timer. This patch modifies the callback to program the timer for 1 tick, if received tick count value is 0. clocksource: samsung_pwm_timer: Correct programming of clock events
In current code, the tick count value programmed to the hardware is always decremented by one. This is reasonable for periodic mode, since there is one extra tick between 0 and COUNT (after reloading), but it makes oneshot events happen 1 tick earlier than requested, because the interrupt is triggered on transition from 1 to 0. This patch removes the decrementation from PWM channel setup code and moves it instead to periodic timer setup, to make both periodic and oneshot modes work correctly. clocksource: samsung_pwm_timer: Use proper clockevents max_delta
This patch replaces hardcoded -1 argument passed to clockevents_config_and_register() with tcnt_max calculated based on variant data. This fixes invalid max delta configuration for 16-bit timers of s3c24xx.
