postinit and version were replaced with generic code in the Linux DRM (drivers
now set their version numbers and description in the driver structure, like on
BSD). postsetup wasn't used at all. Fixes the savage hooks for
initializing and tearing down mappings at the right times. Testing involved at
least starting X, running glxgears, killing glxgears, exiting X, and repeating.

AGP shouldn't use "global_flush_tlb()" to flush the AGP mappings, that i
spurely an x86'ism. The proper AGP mapping flusher that should be used
is "flush_agp_mappings()", which on x86 obviously happens to do a global
TLB flush.
This makes AGP (or at least the config _I_ happen to use) compile again
on ppc64.

This patch removes almost all inclusions of linux/version.h. The 3
#defines are unused in most of the touched files.
A few drivers use the simple KERNEL_VERSION(a,b,c) macro, which is
unfortunatly in linux/version.h.
There are also lots of #ifdef for long obsolete kernels, this was not
touched. In a few places, the linux/version.h include was move to where
the LINUX_VERSION_CODE was used.

Fix the PCIGART increment and add a cpu_to_le32 for ppc (untested)
Paulus was unsure if we need to cpu_to_le32 but the old code was definitely
wrong, so make it consistent and let the PPC guys figure it out later.

AGP allocation/deallocation is suffering major performance issues due to
the nature of global_flush_tlb() being called on every change_page_attr()
call.
For small allocations this isn't really seen, but when you start allocating
50000 pages of AGP space, for say, texture memory, then things can take
seconds to complete.
In some cases the situation is doubled or even quadrupled in the time due
to SMP, or a deallocation, then a new reallocation. I've had a case of
upto 20 seconds wait time to deallocate and reallocate AGP space.
This patch fixes the problem by making it the caller's responsibility to
call global_flush_tlb(), and so removes it from every instance of mapping a
page into AGP space until the time that all change_page_attr() changes are
done.

If a panic came from the IPMI watchdog pretimeout and that was reported via
an NMI, it would also be reported via the standard IPMI flags, which would
get picked up when reporting panic events and cause another panic. This
adds an atomic to avoid calling panic twice.

Use rcu_read_lock for the cmd_rcvrs list, since that was what what
intended, anyway. This means that all the users of the cmd_rcvrs_lock are
tasks, so the irq disables are no longer required for that lock and it can
become a semaphore.

We must poll for responses to commands when interrupts aren't in use. The
default poll interval is based on using a kernel timer, which varies with HZ.
For character-based interfaces like KCS and SMIC though, that can be way too
slow (>15 minutes to flash a new firmware with KCS, >20 seconds to retrieve
the sensor list).
This creates a low-priority kernel thread to poll more often. If the state
machine is idle, so is the kernel thread. But if there's an active command,
it polls quite rapidly. This decrease a firmware flash time from 15 minutes
to 1.5 minutes, and the sensor list time to 4.5 seconds, on a Dell PowerEdge
x8x system.
The timer-based polling remains, to ensure some amount of responsiveness even
under high user process CPU load.
Checking for a stopped timer at rmmod now uses atomics and del_timer_sync() to
ensure safe stoppage.

BMCs can get into ERROR0 state while flashing new firmware, particularly while
the BMC is erasing the next flash block, which may take a just under 2 seconds
on a Dell PowerEdge 2800 (1.75 seconds typical), during which time the
single-threaded firmware may not be able to process new commands. In
particular, clearing OBF may not take effect immediately.
We want it to delay in ERROR0 after clearing OBF a bit waiting for OBF to
actually be clear before proceeding.
This introduces a new return value from the LLDD's event loop,
SI_SM_CALL_WITH_TICK_DELAY. This means the calling thread/timer should
schedule_timeout() at least 1 tick, rather than busy-wait. This is a longer
delay than SI_SM_CALL_WITH_DELAY, which is typically a 250us busy-wait.

The current BT retry/reset mechanism fails to succeed on a PowerEdge 1650,
when the controller is wedged with B2H_ATN asserted at XACTION_START. If this
occurs, no further commands will ever succeed unless the state of the
controller is first cleared out.
Furthermore, the soft reset would only occur if the first command after insmod
was the one that timed out, not if a later command timed out.
This patch changes the retry/reset mechanism to be as follows:
Before retrying a command, clear the state of the BT controller such that the
flags represent ready for a new transaction. This increases the chance of
success of the restarted transaction.
After 2 retries, issue a soft reset and retry one more time before giving up
and reporting back a failure.

Some commands, on some system BMCs, don't respond at at all. This is seen on
Dell PowerEdge x6xx and x7xx systems with IPMI 1.0 BT controllers when a "Get
SDR" command is issued, with a length field of 0x3A, which happens to be the
length of about SDR entries. If another length is passed, this command
succeeds.
This patch adds general infrastructure for receiving commands before they're
passed down to the low-level drivers, such that they can be completed
immediately, or modified, prior to being sent to ->start_transaction().

Make SMIC driver ignore EVT_AVAIL and SMS_ATN bits in flags register, as
they're used by systems management interrupts, not the host OS.
Make the OEM0 Data Available handler work for pre-IPMI 1.5 systems from Dell
too.
Without these two fixes, PowerEdge 2650 and other similar systems with SMIC
may hang a process (modprobe or anything using /dev/ipmi0).

A number of small changes for the various system interface drivers,
consolidated from a number of patches from Matt Domsch.
Clear B2H_ATN and drain the BMC message buffer on command timeout. This
prevents further commands from failing after a timeout.
Add bt_debug and smic_debug module parameters, expose them in sysfs. This
lets you enable and disable debugging messages at runtime.
Unsigned jiffies math in ipmi_si_intf.c causes a too-large value to be passed
to ->event() after jiffies wrap-around. The BT driver had caught this, but
didn't know how to fix it. Now all calls to ->event() use a sane value for
time.
Increase timeout for commands handed to the BT driver from 2 seconds to 5
seconds. This is necessary particularly when the previous command was a
"Clear SEL", as that command completes, yet the BMC isn't really ready to
handle another command yet.
Silence BT debugging messages which were being printed on the console.
Increase SMIC timeout form 1/10s to 2s. This is needed on Dell PowerEdge 2650
and PowerEdge 750 with ERA/O cards to allow commands to complete without
timing out.
Adds kcs_debug module param, to match behavior of BT and SMIC. This also
prevents messages from being sent to the console unless explicitly requested.

This patch is rather large, but it really can't be done in smaller chunks
easily and I believe it is an important change. This has been out and tested
for a while in the latest IPMI driver release. There are no functional
changes, just changes as necessary to convert the locking over (and a few
minor style updates).
The IPMI driver uses read/write locks to ensure that things exist while they
are in use. This is bad from a number of points of view. This patch removes
the rwlocks and uses refcounts and RCU lists to manage what the locks did.

driver_unregister is not being properly called when the init function
returns an error case. Restructured the return logic such that this and
the other cleanups all happen in one place. Preformed many of the cleanups
that Andrew Morton's patch on Thursday made in tpm_atmel.c. Fixed
Matthieu's concern about writing before discovery.

There is a wrong BUG in mxser_close.
The BUG is triggered when tty->driver_data == NULL, But in fact this is not
a bug, because tty->driver->close is called even when tty->driver->open
fails.
LDD3 tells us to do nothing in such cases.

I recently picked up my older work to remove unnecessary #includes of
sched.h, starting from a patch by Dave Jones to not include sched.h
from module.h. This reduces the number of indirect includes of sched.h
by ~300. Another ~400 pointless direct includes can be removed after
this disentangling (patch to follow later).
However, quite a few indirect includes need to be fixed up for this.
In order to feed the patches through -mm with as little disturbance as
possible, I've split out the fixes I accumulated up to now (complete for
i386 and x86_64, more archs to follow later) and post them before the real
patch. This way this large part of the patch is kept simple with only
adding #includes, and all hunks are independent of each other. So if any
hunk rejects or gets in the way of other patches, just drop it. My scripts
will pick it up again in the next round.

This patch adds support for shared HPET interrupts.
The driver previously acknowledged interrupts for both edge and level
interrupts, but didn't actually allow a shared interrupt in the latter case.
We use a new per-timer flag to save whether the timer's interrupt might be
shared, and use it to do the processing required for level interrupts only if
necessary.

It was only the RTC hardware that restricted interrupt frequencies to a power
of two. There is no reason to take over this restriction into the HPET

On 32-bit architectures, the multiplication in the argument for
hpet_time_div() often overflows. In the typical case of a 14.32 MHz timer,
this happens when the desired frequency exceeds 61 Hz.
To avoid this multiplication, we can precompute and store the hardware
timer frequency, instead of the period, in the device structure, which
leaves us with a simple division when computing the number of timer ticks.
As a side effect, this also removes a theoretical bug where the timer
interpolator's frequency would be computed as a 32-bit value even if the
HPET frequency is greater than 2^32 Hz (the HPET spec allows up to 10 GHz).

Since the tpm does not have it's own pci id we have been consuming the lpc
bus. This is not correct and causes problems to support non lpc bus chips.
This patch removes the dependency on pci_dev from tpm.c The subsequent patches
will stop the supported chips from registering as pci drivers.

This patch is in preparation of supporting chips that are not necessarily on
the lpc bus and thus are not accessed with inb's and outb's. The patch
replaces the call to get the chip's status in the tpm.c file with a vendor
specific status function. The patch also defines the function for each of the
current supported devices.

Now that RCU applied on 'struct file' seems stable, we can place f_rcuhead
in a memory location that is not anymore used at call_rcu(&f->f_rcuhead,
file_free_rcu) time, to reduce the size of this critical kernel object.
The trick I used is to move f_rcuhead and f_list in an union called f_u
The callers are changed so that f_rcuhead becomes f_u.fu_rcuhead and f_list
becomes f_u.f_list

Change the phys_mem_access_prot() function to take a pfn instead of an
address. This allows mmap64() to work on /dev/mem for addresses above 4G
on 32-bit architectures. We start with a pfn in mmap_mem(), so there's no
need to convert to an address; in fact, it's actively bad, since the
conversion can overflow when the address is above 4G.
Similarly fix the ppc32 page_is_ram() function to avoid a conversion to an
address by directly comparing to max_pfn. Working with max_pfn instead of
high_memory fixes page_is_ram() to give the right answer for highmem pages.

In PM v1, all devices were called at SUSPEND_DISABLE level. Then
all devices were called at SUSPEND_SAVE_STATE level, and finally
SUSPEND_POWER_DOWN level. However, with PM v2, to maintain
compatibility for platform devices, I arranged for the PM v2
suspend/resume callbacks to call the old PM v1 suspend/resume
callbacks three times with each level in order so that existing
drivers continued to work.
Since this is obsolete infrastructure which is no longer necessary,
we can remove it. Here's an (untested) patch to do exactly that.

I've gotten a report on lkml, of a possible regression in the MGA DRM in
2.6.14-rc4 (since -rc1), I haven't been able to reproduce it here, but I've
figured out some possible issues in the mga code that were definitely
wrong, some of these are from DRM CVS, the main fix is the agp enable bit
on the old code path still used by everyone.....

Since Revision 1.10 was released the n_r3964 module wasn't able to receive any
data. The reason for that behavior is because there were some wrong calls of
mod_timer(...) in the function receive_char (...). This patch should fix this
problem and was successfully tested with talking to some kuka industrial
robots.

CONFIG_SGI_MBCS is enabled in generic kernels, but the driver may

The address passed to io_remap_pfn_range() in hpet_mmap() does not need to
be converted using __pa(): it is already a physical address. This bug was
found and the patch suggested by Clay Harris.
I introduced this particular bug when making io_remap_pfn_range changes a
few months ago. In fact mmap()ing /dev/hpet has *never* previously worked:
before my changes __pa() was being executed on an ioremap()ed virtual
address, which is also invalid.

Some of the SN code & #defines related to compact nodes & IO discovery
have gotten stale over the years. This patch attempts to clean them up.
Some of the various SN MAX_xxx #defines were also unclear & misused.
The primary changes are:
- use MAX_NUMNODES. This is the generic linux #define for the number
of nodes that are known to the generic kernel. Arrays & loops
for constructs that are 1:1 with linux-defined nodes should
use the linux #define - not an SN equivalent.
- use MAX_COMPACT_NODES for MAX_NUMNODES + NUM_TIOS. This is the
number of nodes in the SSI system. Compact nodes are a hack to
get around the IA64 architectural limit of 256 nodes. Large SGI
systems have more than 256 nodes. When we upgrade to ACPI3.0,
I _hope_ that all nodes will be real nodes that are known to
the generic kernel. That will allow us to delete the notion
of "compact nodes".
- add MAX_NUMALINK_NODES for the total number of nodes that
are in the numalink domain - all partitions.
- simplified (understandable) scan_for_ionodes()
- small amount of cleanup related to cnodes

Its possible that we can write to the hvc_console tty as soon it is
registered. Recently this started happening due to (what looks like) a
change to the hotplug code.
Unfortunately at this stage we have not started the khvcd kernel thread and
oops. The solution is to start the kernel thread before registering the
tty.

This patch sets the WDT_ENABLE bit of the Lock Register to enable the
watchdog and WDT_LOCK bit only if nowayout is set. The old code always
sets the WDT_LOCK bit of watchdog timer for Intel 6300ESB chipset. So, we
end up locking the watchdog instead of enabling it.

I wrote earlier to the list[1] asking for a driver for the watchdog
included in the 6300ESB chipset. I got a 2.4 driver via private email
from Ross Biro which I've changed into what I hope resembles a 2.6
driver (which was done by looking a lot at the watchdog drivers
already in the 2.6 tree).
I've attached the result, and I'm hoping to get some feedback on the
coding as a first step. I can't actually test it on the hardware
right now as I won't have physical access until April. So my own tests
have been limited to "compiles-without-warnings" and
"can-be-insmodded-in-other-machine-without-oops".

This patch does a full cleanup of 'NULL checks before vfree', and a partial
cleanup of calls to kfree for all of drivers/ - the kfree bit is partial in
that I only did the files that also had vfree calls in them. The patch
also gets rid of some redundant (void *) casts of pointers being passed to
[vk]free, and a some tiny whitespace corrections also crept in.

On a vc resize, the contents of the old screen buffer are transferred to the
new screenbuffer. If the new screenbuffer is smaller than the old one, only
the contents from the bottom are copied to new. If the contents of the old
buffer are located at the top, then the contents will not be copied to the new
buffer resulting in a blank screen.
This bug will happen only if the vc in question is not in the foreground.
Doing an fbset -a or con2fbmap will trigger this bug.
To fix this problem, base the start of the copy from the location of the
current cursor. If the cursor is near the top of the buffer, copy the
contents at the top, and if the cursor is near the bottom of the buffer, then
copy the contents at the bottom. In the unlikely case where the new row size
is greater than 2x smaller than the old one, and the cursor is in the middle,
copy 1/2 screenful from the top and bottom of the cursor position.

be lock-free. The lookup is protected by rcu_read_lock()/rcu_read_unlock().

In order for the RCU to work, the file table array, sets and their sizes must
be updated atomically. Instead of ensuring this through too many memory
barriers, we put the arrays and their sizes in a separate structure. This
patch takes the first step of putting the file table elements in a separate
structure fdtable that is embedded withing files_struct. It also changes all
the users to refer to the file table using files_fdtable() macro. Subsequent
applciation of RCU becomes easier after this.

The idea of this patch is to lock both sides of a ptmx/pty pair during line
discipline changing. This is needed to ensure that say a poll on one side of
the pty doesn't occur while the line discipline is actively being changed.
This resulted in an oops reported on lkml, see:

A 'hacky' approach was previously implmemented which served to eliminate the
poll vs. line discipline changing race. However, this patch takes a more
general approach to the issue. The patch only adds locking on a less often
used path, the line-discipline changing path, as opposed to locking the
ptmx/pty pair on read/write/poll paths.
The patch below, takes both ldisc locks in either order b/c the locks are both
taken under the same spinlock(). I thought about locking the ptmx/pty
separately, such as master always first but that introduces a 3 way deadlock.
For example, process 1 does a blocking read on the slave side. Then, process
2 does an ldisc change on the slave side, which acquires the master ldisc lock
but not the slave's. Finally, process 3 does a write which blocks on the
process 2's ldisc reference.
This patch does introduce some changes in semantics. For example, a line
discipline change on side 'a' of a ptmx/pty pair, will now wait for a
read/write to complete on the other side, or side 'b'. The current behavior
is to simply wait for any read/writes on only side 'a', not both sides 'a' and
'b'. I think this behavior makes sense, but I wanted to point it out.
I've tested the patch with a bunch of read/write/poll while changing the line
discipline out from underneath.
This patch obviates the need for the above "hide the problem" patch.

Allows to remove the rest of "broken on sparc32" in drivers/char - this
stuff doesn't break the build anymore. Since it got zero testing, it almost

The IPMI power control function proc_write_chassctrl was badly written, it
directly used userspace pointers, it assumed that strings were NULL
terminated, and it used the evil sscanf function. This converts over to
using the sysctl interface for this data and changes the semantics to be a
little more logical.

This patch allows Dell servers with IPMI controllers that predate IPMI 1.5
to use the standard poweroff or powercycle commands. These systems
firmware don't set the chassis capability bit in the Get Device ID, but
they do implement the standard poweroff and powercycle commands.
Tested on RHEL3 kernel 2.4.21-20.ELsmp on a PowerEdge 2600. The standard
ipmi_poweroff driver cannot drive these systems. With this patch, they
power off or powercycle as expected.

The "null message handler" in the IPMI driver is used in startup and panic
situations to handle messages. It was only designed to work with messages
from the local management controller, but in some cases it was used to get
messages from remote managmenet controllers, and the system would then
panic. This patch makes the "null message handler" in the IPMI driver more
general so it works with any kind of message.

This adds MODULE_VERSION, MODULE_DESCRIPTION, and MODULE_AUTHOR tags to the
IPMI driver modules. Also changes the MODULE_VERSION to remove the
prepended 'v' on each value, consistent with the module versioning policy.
This patch also removes all the version information from everything except
the ipmi_msghandler module.

The ipmi driver does not have a way to handle firmware-generated events
which have the OEM[012] Data Available flags set. In such a case, the
SMS_ATN bit may never get cleared by firmware, leaving the driver looping
infinitely but never able to make any progress.
This patch first simplifies storage and use of the data returned from an
IPMI Get Device ID command.
It then creates a new per-OEM handler hook, which should know how to handle
events with the OEM[012] Data Available flags set. It then uses this to
implement a workaround for IPMI 1.5-capable Dell PowerEdge servers which
are susceptable to setting the OEM[012] Data Available flags when the
driver can't handle it.

IPMI allows multiple IPMB channels on a single interface, and each channel
might have a different IPMB address. However, the driver has only one IPMB
address that it uses for everything. This patch adds new IOCTLS and a new
internal interface for setting per-channel IPMB addresses and LUNs. New
systems are coming out with support for multiple IPMB channels, and they are
broken without this patch.

The HPET driver is using a parts per second drift factor instead of the
standard parts per million drift the time interpolator code expects. This

It might be possible for the saved pointer (*p) to become invalid in
between vc_resizes, so saving the screen offset instead of the screen
pointer is saner.
This bug is very hard to trigger though, but Andre probably did, if he's
submitting this patch. Anyway, with Andre's patch, it's still possible for
the offsets to be still illegal, if the new screen size is smaller than the
old one. So I've also added checks if the offsets are still within the
screenbuffer size.

I've had WARN_CONSOLE_UNLOCKED warnings when calling TIOCLINUX
TIOCL_BLANKSCREEN and TIOCL_UNBLANKSCREEN.
(I'm blind and I use a braille display. I use those functions to blank my
laptop's screen so people don't read it, and hopefully to conserve power.)
The warnings are from these places:

Newer Sony VAIO models (VGN-S480, VGN-S460, VGN-S3XP etc) use a new method to
initialize the SPIC device. The new way to initialize (and disable) the
device comes directly from the AML code in the _CRS, _SRS and _DIS methods
from the DSDT table. This patch adds support for the new models.

Yet another architecture not coverd by GEN_RTC - sparc64 never picked
it until now and it doesn't have asm/rtc.h to go with it, so it
wouldn't compile anyway (or have these ioctls in the user-visible
headers, for that matter).
FWIW, I'm very tempted to introduce ARCH_HAS_GEN_RTC and have it set
in arch/*/Kconfig for architectures that know what to do with this
stuff - for something supposedly generic the list of architectures
where it doesn't work is getting too long...

PowerPC 40x and Book-E processors support a watchdog timer at the processor
core level. The timer has implementation dependent timeout frequencies
that can be configured by software.
One the first Watchdog timeout we get a critical exception. It is left to
board specific code to determine what should happen at this point. If
nothing is done and another timeout period expires the processor may
attempt to reset the machine.
Command line parameters:
wdt=0 : disable watchdog (default)
wdt=1 : enable watchdog
wdt_period=N : N sets the value of the Watchdog Timer Period.
The Watchdog Timer Period meaning is implementation specific. Check
User Manual for the processor for more details.

The moxa driver was named "ttya", which is wrong:
1) Documentation/devices.txt says that the name should be "ttyMX".
2) First 10 ports (ttya0...ttya9) clash with the legacy pty driver.

The softdog watchdog timer has a bug that can create an oops:
1. Load the module without the nowayout option.
2. Open the driver and close it without writing 'V' before close.
3. Unload the module. The timer will continue to run...
4. Oops happens when timer fires.

Fix is easy: always take a reference on the module on open.
Release it only when the device is closed and no timer is running.
Tested on 2.6.13-rc6 using the soft_noboot option. While the
timer is running and the device is closed, the module use count
stays at 1. After the timer fires, it drops to 0. Repeatedly
opening and closing the driver caused no problems. Please apply.

Attached is a small update to the w83627hf watchdog driver
to initialise appropriately if it was already initialised
in the BIOS. On tyan motherboards for e.g. you can init
the watchdog to 4 mins, then when the driver is loaded it
sets the watchdog to "seconds" mode, and then machine will
reboot within 4 seconds. So this patch resets the timeout
to the configured value if the watchdog is already running.

While looking for possible candidates for our udev.rules package,
I found a few odd ->name properties. /dev/watchdog has minor 130
according to devices.txt. Since all watchdog drivers use the
misc_register() call, they will end up in /sys/class/misc/$foo.
udev may create the /dev/watchdog node if the driver is loaded.
I dont have such a device, so I cant test it.
The drivers below provide names with spaces and even with / in it.
Not a big deal, but apps may expect /dev/watchdog.

I have a laptop (G3 powerbook) which will pretty reliably hit a race
between con_open and con_close late in the boot process and oops in
vt_ioctl due to tty->driver_data being NULL.
What happens is this: process A opens /dev/tty6; it comes into
con_open() (drivers/char/vt.c) and assign a non-NULL value to
tty->driver_data. Then process A closes that and concurrently process
B opens /dev/tty6. Process A gets through con_close() and clears
tty->driver_data, since tty->count == 1. However, before process A
can decrement tty->count, we switch to process B (e.g. at the
down(&tty_sem) call at drivers/char/tty_io.c line 1626).
So process B gets to run and comes into con_open with tty->count == 2,
as tty->count is incremented (in init_dev) before con_open is called.
Because tty->count != 1, we don't set tty->driver_data. Then when the
process tries to do anything with that fd, it oopses.
The simple and effective fix for this is to test tty->driver_data
rather than tty->count in con_open. The testing and setting of
tty->driver_data is serialized with respect to the clearing of
tty->driver_data in con_close by the console_sem. We can't get a
situation where con_open sees tty->driver_data != NULL and then
con_close on a different fd clears tty->driver_data, because
tty->count is incremented before con_open is called. Thus this patch
eliminates the race, and in fact with this patch my laptop doesn't
oops.

I found why my G5 was crashing when using the linux-2.6 version of the
DRM + git-drm.patch from 2.6.13-rc6-mm1, but not with the CVS DRM.
The reason was that dev->agp->cant_use_aperture wasn't getting set,
and the reason for that was that <linux/version.h> no longer gets
included and the #if LINUX_VERSION_CODE < 0x020408 in drm_agpsupport.c
was going the wrong way. With this patch (and a few others) a 32-bit
server works correctly, as does DRI.

It's been pointed out that environmental events from the system
controllers on Altix machines cause the kernel to complain about
unaligned memory accesses. This turns out to be because
"be32_to_cpup()" didn't do everything I thought/hoped it did.
I've added calls to pull the offending integers out of the
buffers using get_unaligned() before feeding them to
be32_to_cpup().

This leaves the issue of whether we should deprecate the whole thing (or
if we should check the whole mmap range, for that matter) open. Just do
the minimal fix for now.
Spotted by Jeremy Fitzhardinge, this change crept in with the multiple
backend support. It's clearly incorrect to overwrite info->mode after
we just went to lengths to determine which bits to mask out.

This patch includes support for the new Infineon Trusted Platform Module
SLB 9635 TT 1.2 and does further include ACPI-support for both chip
versions (SLD 9630 TT 1.1 and SLB9635 TT 1.2). Since the ioports and
configuration registers are not correctly set on some machines, the
configuration is now done via PNPACPI, which reads out the correct values
out of the DSDT-table. Note that you have to have CONFIG_PNP,
CONFIG_ACPI_BUS and CONFIG_PNPACPI enabled to run this driver (assuming
that mainboards including a TPM do have the need for ACPI anyway).

Since the beginning of July my Opteron box was randomly crashing and
being rebooted by hardware watchdog. Today it finally did it in front
of me, and this patch will hopefully fix it.
The problem is that at the end of June (the 28th, to be exact: commit
47f176fdaf, "[PATCH] Using msleep()
instead of HZ") rtc_get_rtc_time was converted to use msleep() instead
of busy waiting. But rtc_get_rtc_time is used by hpet_rtc_interrupt,
and scheduling is not allowed during interrupt. So I'm reverting this
part of original change, replacing msleep() back with busy loop.
The original code was busy waiting for up to 20ms, but on my hardware in
the worst case update-in-progress bit was asserted for at most 363
passes through loop (on 2GHz dual Opteron), much less than even one
jiffie, not even talking about 20ms. So I changed code to just wait
only as long as necessary. Otherwise when RTC was set to generate
8192Hz timer, it stopped doing anything for 20ms (160 pulses were
skipped!) from time to time, and this is rather suboptimal as far as I
can tell.

This converts the drm_handle_t to unsigned int.
This is currently safe to do as we don't pass these across the kernel/user
boundary, but userspace does use these, but no-one builds userspace against
the kernel headers at present so it is okay to switch over the kernel copy
of drm.h at this point. (The CVS tree will switch over soon in sync with
some Mesa changes)

I basically combined Paul's patches with additions that I had made
for PCI scatter gather.
I also tried more carefully to avoid problems with the same token
assigned multiple times while trying to use the base address in the
token if possible to gain as much backward compatibility as possible
for broken DRI clients.

On PXA255 there is no way to disable the watchdog. Turning off OIER[E3]
as suggested in the existing comment does not work.
I posted a note to the ARM mailing list a little while ago asking for
opinions from people using SA1100. There was one reponse from Nico who
believes that the SA1100 is the same as the PXA255 in this respect.
You also asked me to involve the watchdog maintainer which I tried to
do but didn't hear anything back. There are only a couple of other
drivers which can't stop the watchdog and there seems to be no
consistancy regarding printing an error etc. I decided to print
something since that matches the case for all the other drivers when
NOWAYOUT is turned on.
Also, I changed the device .name to "watchdog" like most of the other
watchdogs. udev uses it as the device name (by default) and spaces etc.
get in the way.
Superceded 2833/1 because 2.6.13-rc4 caused rejects.

When leaving S3 state, the AGP bridge may not have all PCI configuration
registers set in the same way as they were at boot. This should be fixed
by pci_restore_state - however, the APBASE register cannot be set to
conflict with the APSIZE register. If APSIZE is larger than it was before
suspend, pci_restore_state will not restore APBASE correctly. The attached
patch adds an extra item to the agp_bridge_data structure and uses it to
store the value of APBASE. On resume, this is then written after APSIZE
has been set. This patch only touches the path used for Intel chipsets
without integrated graphics, and may need to be extended to work with the
others.
Without this patch, I get the symptoms described in bug 4921 - APBASE ends
up overlapping various PCI devices, and as a result they fail to work after
resume.

`gcc -W' likes to complain if the static keyword is not at the beginning of
the declaration. This patch fixes all remaining occurrences of "inline
static" up with "static inline" in the entire kernel tree (140 occurrences in
47 files).
While making this change I came across a few lines with trailing whitespace
that I also fixed up, I have also added or removed a blank line or two here
and there, but there are no functional changes in the patch.

This patch provides a new device driver for the Infineon SLD 9630 TT Trusted
Platform Module (TPM 1.1b) [1] which is embedded on Intel- mainboards or in
HP/ Fujitsu-Siemens / Toshiba-Notebooks. A nearly complete list where this
module is integrated in can be found in [2].
This kernel module acts as a communication gateway between the linux kernel
and the hardware chip and fits the TPM-specific interfaces created by IBM in
drivers/char/tpm/tpm.h
Further information about this module and a list of succesfully tested and
therefore supported hardware can be found at our project page [3].

sysrq calls into the reboot path from an interrupt handler
we can either push the code do into process context and
call kernel_restart and get a clean reboot or we can simply
reboot the machine, and increase our chances of actually
rebooting. emergency_reboot() seems like the closest match
to what we have previously done, and what we want.

If bailing out because there is nothing to receive in rp_do_receive(),
tty_ldisc_deref is not called. Failure to do so increases the ref count
and causes release_dev() to hang since it can't get the ref count to 0.

This patch adds serveral new ioctls and a new query to get_param query to
support PCI MGA cards.
Two ioctls were added to implement interrupt based waiting. With this change,
the client-side driver no longer needs to map the primary DMA region or the
MMIO region. Previously, end-of-frame waiting was done by busy waiting in the
client-side driver until one of the MMIO registers (the current DMA pointer)
matched a pointer to the end of primary DMA space. By using interrupts, the
busy waiting and the extra mappings are removed.
A third ioctl was added to bootstrap DMA. This ioctl, which is used by the
X-server, moves a *LOT* of code from the X-server into the kernel. This allows
the kernel to do whatever needs to be done to setup DMA buffers. The entire
process and the locations of the buffers are hidden from user-mode.
Additionally, a get_param query was added to differentiate between G4x0 cards
and G550 cards. A gap was left in the numbering sequence so that, if needed,
G450 cards could be distinguished from G400 cards. According to Ville
Syrjälä, the G4x0 cards and the G550 cards handle anisotropic filtering
differently. This seems the most compatible way to let the client-side driver
know which card it's own. Doing this very small change now eliminates the
need to bump the DRM minor version twice.

Added device_is_agp callback to drm_driver. This function is called by the
platform-specific drm_device_is_agp function. Added implementation of this
function the the Linux-specific portion of the MGA driver to detect PCI G450
cards. Added code to the Linux-specific portion of the generic DRM layer to
not initialize AGP infrastructure if the card is not AGP (this matches what
already existed in BSD).
Fix up i810/i830 and i915 drivers to always return AGP as they don't always
report the capability.
Fix the MGA to not report AGP for a card that has an AGP chip behind a PCI
bridge.

Add a new section called ".data.read_mostly" for data items that are read
frequently and rarely written to like cpumaps etc.
If these maps are placed in the .data section then these frequenly read
items may end up in cachelines with data is is frequently updated. In that
case all processors in an SMP system must needlessly reload the cachelines
again and again containing elements of those frequently used variables.
The ability to share these cachelines will allow each cpu in an SMP system
to keep local copies of those shared cachelines thereby optimizing
performance.

The patch fixes a few corner cases around tty line editing with
very long input lines:
- n_tty_receive_char(): don't simply drop eol characters,
otherwise canon_data isn't increased and the reader isn't woken
up.
- n_tty_receive_room(): If there is no newline pending and the
edit buffer is full, allow only a single character to be written
(until eol is found and the line is flushed), so characters from
the next line aren't dropped.
- write_chan(): if an incomplete line was written, continue
writing until write() returns 0, otherwise it might not write
the eol character to flush the line and the writer goes to sleep
without ever being woken up.
BTW the core problem is that part of this should be handled in the
receive_buf path, but for this it has to return the number of
written characters, as the amount of written characters may not be
the same as the amount of characters going into the write buffer,
so the receive_room() usage in pty_write() is not really reliable.

Separate the console setup routines of the hvc_console and the vio layer.
Remove the call to find_init_vty from hvc_console.c.
Fail the setup routine if the console doesn't exist, but register the console
again when the specified channel is instantiated. This scheme maintains the
print buffer semantics while eliminating callout and call back for the console
code.

Have the hvc console code try to pull characters immediately when receiving an
interrupt, and kick the poll thread only if the immediate poll indicates it

Use the vterm numbers to match the vio devices being probed with the indices
already allocated via the console initcall function hvc_find_vtys.
The old code required hvc_find_vtys to "guess" the matching devices the vio
subsystem would find and its probe order.

Milton Miller has done a lot of work to clean up our hvc_console code.
One of the important things the following patch series does is separate the
VIO layer from the hvc_console code. With the VIO specific code removed any
ppc64 platform, or even any architecture, can use hvc_console as a generic
polling console. You simply have to supply a get_chars and put_chars method
and hvc_console does the rest of the work. You can even use it for an
interrupt driven console.
This patch:
Rearrange the code in drivers/char/hvc_console.c to make future patches
smaller. No actual code changes, just ordering of the functions in the file.

The dynamic pci id logic has been bothering me for a while, and now that
I started to look into how to move some of this to the driver core, I
thought it was time to clean it all up.
It ends up making the code smaller, and easier to follow, and fixes a
few bugs at the same time (dynamic ids were not being matched
everywhere, and so could be missed on some call paths for new devices,
semaphore not needed to be grabbed when adding a new id and calling the
driver core, etc.)
I also renamed the function pci_match_device() to pci_match_id() as
that's what it really does.

This patch removes CONFIG_PMAC_PBOOK (PowerBook support). This is now
split into CONFIG_PMAC_MEDIABAY for the actual hotswap bay that some
powerbooks have, CONFIG_PM for power management related code, and just left
out of any CONFIG_* option for some generally useful stuff that can be used
on non-laptops as well.

Use msleep_interruptible() instead of schedule_timeout() in send_break() to
guarantee the task delays as expected. Change @duration's units to

Not sure why any driver needs to sleep for *two* ticks, so let's fix it.
Use msleep() instead of schedule_timeout() to guarantee the task delays as
expected. Signals are never checked for by the callers or in the function
itself, so use TASK_UNINTERRUPTIBLE instead of TASK_INTERRUPTIBLE. The
delay is presumed to have been written when HZ==100, and thus has been
multiplied by 10 to pass to msleep().

Makes kexec_crashdump() take a pt_regs * as an argument. This allows to
get exact register state at the point of the crash. If we come from direct
panic assertion NULL will be passed and the current registers saved before
crashdump.
This hooks into two places:
die(): check the conditions under which we will panic when calling
do_exit and go there directly with the pt_regs that caused the fatal
fault.
die_nmi(): If we receive an NMI lockup while in the kernel use the
pt_regs and go directly to crash_kexec(). We're probably nested up badly
at this point so this might be the only chance to escape with proper
information.

Removed the dependency on backup region. Now all the information is encoded
in ELF format. /dev/oldmem is a dummy interface. User space tool need to be
intelligent enough to parse the elf headers and read the relevant memory areas
with the help of /dev/oldmem.

I8K: Change to use stock dmi infrastructure instead of homegrown
parsing code. The driver now requires box's DMI data to match
list of supported models so driver can be safely compiled-in
by default without fear of it poking into random SMM BIOS
code. DMI checks can be ignored with i8k.ignore_dmi option.

Since after reconsideration this is more debug output than an error (the
TPM is operating correctly given the current state) I have changed the
statements to dbg rather than err.
Also this patch corrects a memory leak if the error path is taken in the
tpm_show_pubek function.

Realized the tpm_lpc_init function isn't really necessary. Replaced it
with vendor specific logic to find out the address the BIOS mapped the TPM
to. This patch removes the tpm_lpc_init function, enums associated with it
and calls to it. The patch also implements the replacement functionality.

In the current driver all sysfs files end up owned by the base driver module
rather than the module that actually owns the device this is a problem if the
module is unloaded and the file is open. This patch fixes all that and lumps
the files into an attribute_group.

The TPM driver unnecessarily uses timers when it simply needs to maintain a
maximum delay via time_before(). msleep() is used instead of
schedule_timeout() to guarantee the task delays as expected. While
compile-testing, I found a typo in the driver, using tpm_chp instead of
tpm_chip. Remove the now unused timer callback function and change
TPM_TIMEOUT's units to milliseconds. Patch is compile-tested.

This patch to adds "power cycle" functionality to the IPMI power off module
ipmi_poweroff. It also contains changes to support procfs control of the
feature.
The power cycle action is considered an optional chassis control in the IPMI
specification. However, it is definitely useful when the hardware supports
it. A power cycle is usually required in order to reset a firmware in a bad
state. This action is critical to allow remote management of servers.
The implementation adds power cycle as optional to the ipmi_poweroff module.
It can be modified dynamically through the proc entry mentioned above. During
a power down and enabled, the power cycle command is sent to the BMC firmware.
If it fails either due to non-support or some error, it will retry to send
the command as power off.

The patch is against a 2.6.11 kernel tree. I am running this with a
32-bit X server (compiled up from X.org CVS as of a couple of weeks
ago) and 32-bit DRI libraries and clients. All the userland stuff is
identical to what I am using under a 32-bit kernel on my G4 powerbook
(which is a 32-bit machine of course). I haven't tried compiling up a
64-bit X server or clients yet.
In the compatibility routines I have assumed that the kernel can
safely access user addresses after set_fs(KERNEL_DS). That is, where
an ioctl argument structure contains pointers to other structures, and
those other structures are already compatible between the 32-bit and
64-bit ABIs (i.e. they only contain things like chars, shorts or
ints), I just check the address with access_ok() and then pass it
through to the 64-bit ioctl code. I believe this approach may not
work on sparc64, but it does work on ppc64 and x86_64 at least.
One tricky area which may need to be revisited is the question of how
to handle the handles which we pass back to userspace to identify
mappings. These handles are generated in the ADDMAP ioctl and then
passed in as the offset value to mmap. However, offset values for
mmap seem to be generated in other ways as well, particularly for AGP
mappings.
The approach I have ended up with is to generate a fake 32-bit handle
only for _DRM_SHM mappings. The handles for other mappings (AGP, REG,
FB) are physical addresses which are already limited to 32 bits, and
generating fake handles for them created all sorts of problems in the
mmap/nopage code.
This patch has been updated to use the new compatibility ioctls.

Add a watchdog using the RTAS OS surveillance service. This is
provided as a simpler alternative to rtasd. The added value
is that it works with standard watchdog client programs and
can therefore also do user space monitoring.
On BPA, rtasd is not really useful because the hardware does
not have much to report with event-scan.
The driver should also work on other platforms that support
the OS surveillance rtas calls.

The IXP2000 has four timers, but if we're on an A-step IXP2800, timer
2 and 3 don't work. We need two timers for timekeeping (one for the
timer interrupt and one for tracking missed jiffies), so on early
IXP2800s we have no other choice but to use timer 1 and 4 for that,
but on all other IXP2000s we'd rather leave timer 4 free since that's
the only timer we can use for the watchdog.
So, on buggy IXP2000s (i.e. the A-step IXP2800) we use timer 4 for
tracking missed jiffies, and on all all non-buggy IXP2000s (i.e.
everything but the A-step IXP2800) we use timer 2.
On a pre-production IXP2800, this patch should print these messages
on boot:

Unable to use IXP2000 watchdog due to IXP2800 erratum #25
On any non-buggy IXP2800 (as well as on IXP2400s) you shouldn't see
anything at all, and the watchdog should be usable again.

When significant delays happen during boot (e.g. with a kernel debugger,
but the problem has also seen in other cases) the timeout for blanking the
console may trigger, but the work scheduler may not have been initialized,
yet. schedule_work() will oops over the null keventd_wq.

[AGPGART] Replace check_bridge_mode() with (bridge->mode & AGSTAT_MODE_3_0).
As mentioned earlier, the current check_bridge_mode() code assumes
that AGP bridges are PCI devices. This isn't always true. Definitely
not for HP zx1 chipset and the same seems to be the case for SGI's AGP
bridge.
The patch below fixes the problem by picking up the AGP_MODE_3_0 bit
from bridge->mode. I feel like I may be missing something, since I
can't see any reason why check_bridge_mode() wasn't doing that in the
first place. According to the AGP 3.0 specs, the AGP_MODE_3_0 bit is
determined during the hardware reset and cannot be changed, so it
seems to me it should be safe to pick it up from bridge->mode.
With the patch applied, I can definitely use AGP acceleration both
with AGP 2.0 and AGP 3.0 (one with an Nvidia card, the other with an
ATI FireGL card).
Unless someone spots a problem, please apply this patch so 3d
acceleration can work on zx1 boxes again.
This makes AGP work again on machines with an AGP bridge that isn't a
PCI device.

When Linux is running on the Xen virtual machine monitor, physical
addresses are virtualised and cannot be directly referenced by the AGP
GART. This patch fixes the GART driver for Xen by adding a layer of
abstraction between physical addresses and 'GART addresses'.
Architecture-specific functions are also defined for allocating and freeing
the GATT. Xen requires this to ensure that table really is contiguous from
the point of view of the GART.
These extra interface functions are defined as 'no-ops' for all existing
architectures that use the GART driver.

Don't pass meaningless file handles to block device ioctls.
The recent raw IO ioctl-passthrough fix started passing the raw file
handle into the block device ioctl handler. That's unlikely to be
useful, as the file handle is actually open on a character-mode raw
device, not a block device, so dereferencing it is not going to yield
useful results to a block device ioctl handler.
Previously we just passed NULL; also not a value that can usefully
be dereferenced, but at least if it does happen, we'll oops instead of
silently pretending that the file is a block device, so NULL is the more
defensive option here. This patch reverts to that behaviour.

[Patch] Fix raw device ioctl pass-through
Raw character devices are supposed to pass ioctls through to the block
devices they are bound to. Unfortunately, they are using the wrong
function for this: ioctl_by_bdev(), instead of blkdev_ioctl().
ioctl_by_bdev() performs a set_fs(KERNEL_DS) before calling the ioctl,
redirecting the user-space buffer access to the kernel address space.
This is, needless to say, a bad thing.
This was noticed first on s390, where raw IO was non-functioning. The
s390 driver config does not actually allow raw IO to be enabled, which
was the first part of the problem. Secondly, the s390 kernel address
space is distinct from user, causing legal raw ioctls to fail. I've
reproduced this on a kernel built with 4G:4G split on x86, which fails
in the same way (-EFAULT if the address does not exist kernel-side;
returns success without actually populating the user buffer if it does.)
The patch below fixes both the config and address-space problems. It's
based closely on a patch by Jan Glauber <jang@de.ibm.com>, which has
been tested on s390 at IBM. I've tested it on x86 4G:4G (split address
space) and x86_64 (common address space).
Kernel-address-space access has been assigned CAN-2005-1264.

Correct an issue with the IPMI message layer taking a lock and calling
lower layer driver. If an error occrues at the lower layer the lock can be
taken again causing a deadlock. The lock is released before calling the
lower layer.

Enable interrupts for a BT interface. There is a specific register that
needs to be set up to enable interrupts that also must be modified to clear
the irq.
Also, don't reset the BMC on a BT interface. That's probably not a good
idea as the BMC may be performing other important functions and a reset
should only be a last resort. Also, that register is also used to
enable/disable interrupts to the BT; modifying it may screw up the
interrupts.

If the ACPI register bit width is zero (an invalid value) assume it is the
default spacing. This avoids some coredumps on invalid data and makes some
systems work that have broken ACPI data.

Ignore the bottom bit of the base address from the DMI data. It is
supposed to be set to 1 if it is I/O space. Few systems do this, but this
enables the ones that do set it to work properly.

There were still a few comments left refering to verify_area, and two
functions, verify_area_skas & verify_area_tt that just wrap corresponding
access_ok_skas & access_ok_tt functions, just like verify_area does for
access_ok - deprecate those.
There was also a few places that still used verify_area in commented-out
code, fix those up to use access_ok.
After applying this one there should not be anything left but finally
removing verify_area completely, which will happen after a kernel release
or two.

My previous patch that added sleep support for uninorth-agp and some AGP
"off" stuff in radeonfb and aty128fb is breaking some configs. More
specifically, it has problems with rage128 setups since the DRI code for
these in X doesn't properly re-enable AGP on wakeup or console switch
(unlike the radeon DRM).
This patch fixes the problem for pmac once for all by using a different
approach. The AGP driver "registers" special suspend/resume callbacks with
some arch code that the fbdev's can later on call to suspend and resume
AGP, making sure it's resumed back in the same state it was when suspended.
This is platform specific for now. It would be too complicated to try to
do a generic implementation of this at this point due to all sort of weird
things going on with AGP on other architectures. We'll re-work that whole
problem cleanly once we finally merge fbdev's and DRI.
In the meantime, please apply this patch which brings back some r128 based
laptops into working condition as far as system sleep is concerned.

Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history,
even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git
archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about
3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early
git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good
infrastructure for it.
Let it rip!
